G'day mates,

I was just randomly Stumbling around the net, killing some time, and came across this site:

Pow! Canonical List of Free and Cheap Stock Photos

A massive list of free and cheap sites offering stock photos. Might be of interest to some here

Very useful I've just used up all of my free registration credits with some of the commercial ones.

I have found that a lot of the free ones are just crap. They let anyone post anything. I was looking for a dove, and I got loads of blurred pigeons, or silhouetted dots against a huge grey sky.

But with a list that size, there should be some decent stuff.

I've noticed the same.

Fortunately, you can generally find a decent site that has great, high-res photos for $1 or so. It's worth it (not that I've actually had need to pay for one yet!)

The images at $1 are fantastic value. You can get a studio-quality image of a model, animal (or both) or whatever and use them to create some great results. The license also allows you to use the watermarked version for proof-of-concept, before buying it for the final cut.

Those images are also far better than the collection CDs you buy.

Ahh, but that's only because you get to actually see each individual image before you buy
