"This high volume board is for all geek / tech culture related threads not specific to game making."

I really used to enjoy bounding into these forums in the evening to find out what weird and wonderful techy stuff people had dug up for us to ogle over. But now I see more and more totally useless posts such as
* The millionth story game with even more ridiculous rules
* I have/haven't got a girl/boy-friend
* I'm leaving/back posts

Seriously guys I'm wondering whats happened.

I don't care whether you lost you date and you don't want to eat anymore and nobody loves you and your shoes itch...if I gave a fig I can visit your inane blog and comatose myself there.
And word games...seriously, you have a tool where you can knock up a 3D object in 1 line and your making word games...jesus.

Now this is just my opinion and I'm wondering if anyone else would like to see the rule TIGHTENED on this place.

p.s. Yes sorry the title should say 'others'

Uhm... Well, I can say word games, story games, girl trouble and uncertainty are certainly geek or 'nerdy' (sorry for those offended) threads/subjects/activities, so your point doesn't hold there.

I'm having fun here, really, so I don't need to see the rules tightened down. Three active games max, no total nonsense topics and just a place to chat about daily life, problems and eventually some gadgets and stuff.

very much agree with da power pwnerer, why would the mods shut down an entire board for three threads? Thats just ludicrious.

Ummm, Geek Culture is probably one of the highest traffic sections of this forum and for good reason (Edit: Actually, just checked and it is THE most highest traffic section, beating out the DBP forum by roughly 100,000 posts). Every forum needs an off-topic zone. The world is full of rules and laws, sometimes we just need to have some freedoms to do as we please even if it is just a forum with word games. Obviously people enjoy those threads or they wouldn't exist.

And FYI this is another pointless rant thread.

this board has just gone downhill since the creation of these forums years ago, and i think this proverbial hill is of exponential gradient

I sort of agree, but I think a board about off topic stuff is good to have. Maybe we could go back to a board named Off-Topic (the name this one used to have), and another named Geek Culture.

Then again, we still have no audio board and programming talk is still stuck in a place it didn't use to and still shouldn't be, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I don't agree. The DB forums were full of stupid posts back when I joined in 2000 too. Not any more childish now if you ask me.

At least we don't have so many of the type of people like Smartass anymore. If you were not around then then he (and a few others) would basically make stupid comments about every single thread pretty much. You would ignore the posts unless they said something that was actually funny.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Locked down...not locked. Sorry I guess the turn of phrase was a little dramatic.
This thread really is a spur of the moment rant so sorry for posting it, I should have thought before. I just had got unlucky and the last few threads I had click on contained (in my mind) pure toss.
If you feel the need to carry on debating this then thats your call.
Again sorry for falling the to urge to immediately post my mind.

Not needed, that's exactly what Geek Culture is for.

You generally learn from the authors and titles which threads are worth opening and which aren't.

There should be some kind of rule on titles like "Can you believe this?!" or "How does this happen?" which are always complete crap and are just titled to make people open them.

The easily enough discussion of old games, new consoles and what is currently the best line of processors etc.

Baggers, as requested, I'll lock this thread to protect you from yourself

Atually, I agree with a few of your points:
- yes, the 'toss' level of posts on this board is high - but that's why we have it, so we get a lower proportion of those posts in other forums.
- one game thread is more than enough. If they want games, they can damn well write one ... isn't that what TGC products are for?

You forgot the 'I've created a forum' threads in your rant

Mods can edit them, and every now and then I do. But I am like many others, I don't even look at them.
