Ok, ive tried searching the forums a bit, and couldent find anything, i scanned thru the manual as well, and besides something to do with physics, theres no way to move entity's without them being characters.

So my question is this: has anyone successfully made a decal that can move in real time? (such as a plasma bolt)

I know a decal is technically an entity, so its basically about moving an entity. An as far as i know, the only way to move an entity is to make it a character, but im not sure how to go about this, or if a decal can be parented or actually be a charecter. Has anyone ever given this a shot?

Actually I have tried playing around with this, and without some interaction with the decal there is no way to get it to move.

I image what your trying to figure out is a way to simulate a laser type weapon.

I have some ideas how to fix this via the source, but I am waiting on the new source code to come out. I also wish they would release the part of the source for the editing program so that we can assign more options and short cuts for other tricks that we can build into the source.

If you intend to use it on a weapon, you may be able to use a mesh with a texture which has transparency as flak,as in the bazooka.I think both Butters and Errant have used this to some degree, check out Butters flame thrower and Errants laser rifle.
For impact it is easy enough to change the characters decal but for objects you may have to ovewrite the explosion decal which is called by the engine and it only uses one as far as I know.
For anything else I dont think it is possible to parent a decal or any entity for that matter, would be handy tho' for dropped items.
