hey guys!
do you know the best 3d modeling program that features full compatibility with .X files (import\export), FPS Creator weaponz and entities (animation support), possibility to create cutscenes and to render in .avi!
Don't tell me Milkshape or 3dsmax cause they don't support X files (XD) importing.

I dont think there is a best, I often have to use many programs.
Do a search on them here, you will find lots of low cost programs.
Im sure wings 3d supports .x, thats a free program as well, Delgine, that supports .x, thats free also. There are lots of programs, just do a search on the boards.

What I do with MS3d is I use LithUnwrap to make the conversion. Open any x file with LithUnwrap, save it as an MS3d, or use the mesh tool like Keith said.

Best .

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

Maya is the best of the best in my opinion. Dead easy and everything you need. Better not mention anything about its price though

The problem is not if there isn't after-death-life. The problem is if there is no life in life!

Well actually you could find the best program by doing some research.
Download few trials of programs that looking interesting.
Try it , choose the best one for you..
Programs having there own style of modeling. So it's up to you to pick the best one.

And you could use a other program to convert your X files.
Like Fragmotion.

Best ,

I remember polycount.com having a psoting on a free animation software, it will be a couple of pages back in the archieves, infact check there for free programs and offers, it carries a lot of news on 3d for games.

I find the combo of Milkshape and Fragmotion to work quite well.
Milkshape imports .x files but they don't retain any animation...however,
Fragmotion imports .xfiles with animation as well as .dbo and exports them as working animated Milkshape files.
Milkshapes JT exporter is the better exporter for .x where as Fragmotion's .x exporters are a bit iffy. So I would go with a combo of the 2. Where one lacks the other picks up.

If you take price into the equation, then blender wins hands down.

For a small fee, milkshape is the king of low poly games modelling - the import and export formats are numberless, and it is easy to use

Ignoring price, then it has to be 3ds Max. It is the program most game devs use. For high quality rendering (think films and TV shows like BSG) then lightwave is preferred.

So the best are in this order:

1)Blender (powerful and free, user interface takes getting used to though, but it's much better than it used to be)

2)Milkshape (costs a little, simple to use - maybe too simple on the modelling front)

3)3ds max (best features of both, but costs alot, unless you can nab a second hand copy. Older versions are just as good, anything from 6 onwards I'd suggest)

For texturing, try searching google for 'lithunwrap' that ought to do it.

Use Anim8or, by far the easiest. Then export to 3DS, use DbConv to convert to .X

DBconv makes the files .x so it can be used in FPSC. I'll see if I can find a link.
