Okay, I found a script made by Benjamin that was to show a simple image on screen and have it disappear. I suppose re-copying the script onto here would be pointless but here it is anyway (What I have running):

Okay, when I get near the entity that has this script, nothing happens.

The image is black and white, and is 473x56 in dimensions. I saved it as a Monochrome bitmap (To save on size, since it's just black and white anyway).

Is there any reason for this script not to work? Could someone maybe post up an example image that they know works on the HUD, in BMP format (Because I lost my PSP7 CD somewhere when I moved )?

I really need to have text appear on screen that is my own custom text.

This may not answer your question.
However i had some failed attempts with a custom HUD, it was in .dds format, and nothing would work. When i made the HUD graphic a .png file. it showed up great.

Good luck anyway.

Hmmm, thank you for that tid-bit of information. Perhaps I should try that file-type.

[EDIT]
Figured out the problem. The path I was trying to use started with "..\" when it wasn't needed, so it was trying to point someplace completely different.

NOTE: .BMP files work just fine for this, the black became transparent just as predicted.
