Hello, I am thinking about purchasing DarkBasic. I just have 1 question. Is it possible to make mmos with it?

It's possible to make literally anything with DB - it's a programming language.

It just depends how serious you are, how much effort you put into learning it and how well you stick at it.

What you are suggesting is not easy and could/will take you years and should not be attempted as a first project. To be honest I'm far from being a newcomer to programming and I'm not daft enough to try writing one!

Read some of the other posts on here about exactly the same subject - we really don't want to repeat it all over yet again!

Yeah but, I bet you could, if you really really really wanted to TDK.
But then, your always making cool IDEs or tools and utilities, and why break a winning streak?

when you get very good at DB, you should make an RPG first then start making an MMORPG

how do you make a sig?

Possible yes....if you're asking if it can, no.

I know that sounds mean but I want you to make an rpg first with all of the abilities, worlds, npc's, terrain, character's, bosses, music, media..etc... and then once we all see how you've done you can attempt an mmo but we're all telling you right now to save yourself aggravation and embarssament, don't try an mmo yet.

We're always here to help you though, have fun with what you make.

mmorpgs are near impossible to pull off in any language, especially if you're on your own.
Wouldn't recommend it to the hobbyist

What have I ever done that is noobish? Tell me...

I know I am a newbie because I am new to these forums. But I am not one set on making an MMO and being better than everyone for I know that I cannot make an MMO and people are better than me. I have 4 years of programming. How could I be a noob? You were a noob once too I am sure. So what gives anyone an excuse to flame anyone? Please just back off.

It has been there for a day. Why didn't say anything about then and I would've edited it?

Dark Pivot,

The answer is YES and it doesnt have to be difficult. For all intense purposes a Chat App is a MMO (minus graphics and sound). So your first step would be to design and write a Chat Prog. You can find good startup Source Code --> http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=codebase_view&i=f3dac28b9773bd69fbd1f93f54048c0e.

If you can design and write your own Chat App, then your next step is to add simple 3D game world to the chat. The game world could consist of a simple Terrain. A sphere is used as an Avatar to represent each user in the chat. When a user joins the chat, you place an avatar on the Terrain. Users control their avatar by sending special movement commands via chat.

If you can achieve this basic chat/game you can continue to add more features until you shape this chat/game into the MMO of your dreams. The key point here is to start with the network without it you dont have a MMO.

Well... ahem.

No that was not noobish. Your outbreak of laughter was noobish because you were laghing at someone with less experience than you, making you very mean, all things considered.
Quote: "What have I ever done that is noobish? Tell me..."

How about:
Quote: "How could I make an IDE? Can you code them through DBP/DBC or something else? Please help me understand this."

Preceded by
Quote: "Could you send me your whole syntax code?"

Wow... sorry about that rant.
Now I'm gonna shut up now.

now I think we should all just calm down before someone says something they don't mean. Feelings could get hurt here guys. Once you start calling people a noob people get hurt... could you live with the shame of being branded a noob for one ill-judged outburst?

All of our actions have consequences. Next time you feel like saying something nasty, which could make someone else cry, I want you to count to 100. Don't rashly say something you'll regret, that could haunt you for the rest of your days. You could end up with people walking down the street chanting things at you. It could make your very life itself a misery.

Or (finally removing my tongue from my cheek cos it's starting to ache a little) you could just get over it.

It was amazing. It had articles written on people who dressed up as superheroes in cillit bang costumes. He was impressed with the idea, but not with their actual attire, as he said a nice shirt and some well-pressed chinos were the perfect clothes for cleaning. Likewise he bemoaned the dress sense of modern rock bands, complaining that they were influencing young people against sensible, down to earth, respectable clothing. It was rather wittily written, I thought.

Don't bash the guy for wanting to make an MMO. It's the future of gaming and people get tired of the same old "deathmatch" scenario over and over in every game. I would absolutely love to make an MMO someday, but I'm not there yet. PlanetSide was one of my favorite games of all time. I'm really looking forward to seeing if Huxley is any good. I'm giving strong props to anyone that tries to make something like that. Just answer the questions and if you don't have anything to contribute, then shut it. That's my rave. You won't here any more from me...
