A thin layer of thermal paste is normally applied to be sure of maximum thermal transfer between processor and heatsink.

if you use the heatsink that comes with it then i don't think you have to put thermal paste on it so i would check that

The Core 2 Duo comes with a heatsink with 3 black paste strips on it.

I added some better paste anyway. It goes on top of the CPU / under the heatsink.

I you try to run a CPU without paste it will run 10-15c hotter!

The Core 2 Duo CPU is wierd it doesn't have any pins! There will be a black plastic cover both on the slot and the bottom of the CPU. Remove these, lift a lever on the slot and place the CPU in it (it will only fit one way) then you close it down and put the heatsink on top.

the pins in the socket are very delicate, lower the cpu vertically so the pins dont get bent

learn blender, you will never regret it.

Also, do not touch the pins or the bottom of the processor, doing so will make your processor inoperative or very slow!
