I've heard it in this: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=89393&b=23

Is it in there?

They did not say there was a gun that did that, he merely stated that your character can pick up dynamic objects at this point and put them back down.

I'm not sure anyone here would be up to making a gravity gun for FPSC, given the lack of scripting flexibility.

Well, is this possible:

taking the same script out of the player... scan through until you find the pick up script... Would you be able to copy the script to make a gravity gun?

I don't believe that it's a script. If it is, it's not FPI, because FPI sucks right now, lol.

You should (i thing) modify the source code.
And maybe even then, it would be almost impossible.

Yes, I agree with CC. Modifying the source code in DBP will prove to be very handy. I'm sure if someone was motivated enough to sit down and surf through the tens of thousands of lines of code to reverse engineer what's going on and find a way to reprogram it to allow a gun to act as a gravity gun (or make some custom script commands to do it), then that'd be just spectacular.

I just took a look into the source code myself, and I have to say... that musta been one important girl for empty to go and make his mod like he did, lmao.

Personally I don't think I'd want a gravity gun so much as I'd want an option to disable picking things up all together - meanwhile I guess I'll have to resort to making my coffee cups 3 tons a piece

I wish empty had released the source for his mod.

I want to make some changes of my own, but I don't want to reprogram everything he did, lol.

I don't know if this would work, but just change the waight of the entities that need to be moved, Also, gust model a hud to be displayed when a key like "g" is pressed. (Idon't know the scan code for this). still crude, but effective.

no you can pick stuff up by right clicking......

i'll run through the fpi commands and see if there's a weight altering one.

x-EDIT-x

i found a command for you...... called NOGRAVITY, it's an action and perhaps with a little ingenuity it would work.......

first you've conquered Portal, now it's HL2

baybe you could somehow make the gun still visible when you pick stuff up normally and make a gravity gun and there you have it

You just wasted a few seconds of your life reading this signature!

Not possible, you can't check for when the right mouse is clicked, so you can't even fake it by showing a gravity gun HUD when you throw stuff. Basically you are using the default FPSC throwing mechanism.

I don't think your understanding. This has nothing to do with Right Clicking. Its possible but doesn't really throw. And no DAH yes ur using teh default hands but techanly it kind of works.

Perhaps when the player presses the key, then the object will associate itself witht he player?

Random thought I just decided to throw out there.

However, now that I think about it, it still would not be able to distinguish whether or not the player was actually looking at it and not just standing by it.

Well, I'm guessing you're trying to use the scripting system to make a gravity gun, which also isn't possible, sorry.

Everyone who is annoyingly pessimistic, please kill yourselves...

Weapon wise, they are right... FPE's are little more than the few bits of data to get a model and a few functions of that model into the system. The FPI's may hold a different statment.

The imediat problem is that there really aren't that many pysics related FPI commands (infact, I believe there is only one). But who ever said that you had to USE physics. Just use simple movements...

Although, I can't say if the activatetarget command actually, works... and it might be quite difficult to setup... but if you are able to do so, and make each dynamic object an enemy... and have something like

:activated=1:followplr
:activated=2:movefore=2

it will kinda act like a grav-gun... unfortunatly, thats the best I can think of... but good luck on your own.

Its not who you are or what you've done... its WHY you did it and how far you are willing to go.

@Goodman84

I have absolutely no support in this gravity gun theory since it is not possible without extensive (time wise) source code editing. Could you as well post exactly what you are doing and whats happening in game because as far as I can tell, you are posting that you have created a gravity gun but with no evidence whatsoever, could you just clear this up for me?

Thanks

The answer is there is no gravity gun in FPSC and of the Style of the gravity gun of Half Life 2 there never will be.

At the moment it is indeed an impossibility and it will remain so until someone no matter who it might be makes it any different and proves it can be done by actually doing it and showing for all to clearly see that it can be done.

With the current FPSC and Physics engine, including any available source and any capability it has I do not believe there is anyone, anywhere no matter who they might be that can do that.

If they can then please start another thread and we can download your HL2 style FPSC engine mod with improved physics and gravity gun and test it out.
