They make no sense!

E6750 2.66GHz (1333MHz) - $193
E6700 2.66GHz (1066MHz) - $316

That's ridiculous. At first, you may think oh its way cheaper to get the cpu with the faster fsb. Well, until you find out that most motherboards that support that fsb speed require DDR3 ram, which is way more expensive.

No no, you cant use the flux capacitor in that way, let me reverse your polarity.

Seriously though, I would recommend a core 2 quad instead, most games today use as many cores as they can anyway.

Your about to get pwned.

Most motherboards can handle 1333 fsb, with ddr2 667 ram, 667 is pretty standard...

Yeah the 1333Mhz bus range are cheaper. If you have an old 1066 motherboard without a 1333 bios firmware upgrade you will be made to pay

The only realy affordable quad is the 2.4Ghz one. If AMD ever get their asses in gear and release their quad to the public I'd expect to see quad prices fall.

I'm gona wait until after the new year to see if prices drop then maybe build a quad for my game server

I think it's better to get one of the cheaper C2Ds and over clock it, they can pretty much be turned up to perform as well as the top of the line ones.

What you have to remember is that all C2Ds are manufactured the same and the cheaper ones are just deliberately impaired or made slightly wrong.

The top processors can't over clock very much at all.

Get an E6600 I'd say, you can crank it up a LOT.

Correction- will use as many cores as they can anyway. A program has to be rewritten for each of the cores. Games made in the last year or so are mainly dual-threaded, only a couple of them are also quad-threaded.

I don't plan to ever overclock and I'm not a big gamer and don't need to run Oblivion at max settings. I asked my trusted PC store owner his thoughts on the price differences. According to him, the 1066mhz cpus are still being bought more frequently than the 1333 due to the fact they are more stable, hence the price increase.
