Hey everyone, my name's Nick, just thought I oughta start with an introduction.

Well, a little about myself, I'm 18 years old, I have lots of experience in graphics art and some basic to advanced knowledge in programming and modeling. I also recently have been getting involved with more musically oriented projects. I have a few projects planned out, but I will not be able to get started on them until I have a little more of a handle on DarkBASIC, so far it's definately been one of the easier languages I have worked with. But yea, just thought I would introduce my self.

A couple more things though, below I will post my experience in different areas and what I am able to do.

I have 5 years in Web Design (5 of that being HTML, 3 being PHP - and MySQL, and a very basic grasp on JavaScript and ASP.)

I have 6 years of doing graphics art and animating (Photoshop/Fireworks, Flash MX, classic Paint - OH YEAH!)

I have 2 1/2 years of doing 3D Modeling (I mainly use Lightwave 7.5 - gotta love LW )

And finally....

I have 2 years in music and am trying to really grasp music production. (I play Bass, Guitar and Piano mainly, among other various things)

Music is one of those things I am willing to do for people's projects, however, depending on what time I have available I may or may not be able to take requests and also, I may or may not have higher charge rates. Example, if you want a SUPER simple song and I have free time in my life, I could prolly whip it up for free. But if you want something more complex and I may not have a whole lot of time, I may still take your offer but I may charge a small fee. I'll hopefully get a demo out for you all soon.

And 3D modeling I am pretty decent at, but I'm not sure if I am comfortable enough to try and take model requests. If you would like me to try something simple just for fun, I could prolly attempt that.

So that's a bit about me and what I can/am willing to do. Thanks
Grandma

Well hey! Looks like we got ourself a usefull one here. Seppuku! Bring out the red carpet and remove all the geeks staring at him, making him all uncomfortable. And Zombie 20, see if you can clean off the blood stains, while i go make cookies for our new member here.

In all seriousness, welcome!

First some basic rules:

1. No MMORPG talk
2. Read the AUP, it's a moderately strict forum
3. The Golden rule

Also good to see we have another musician here, we don't lack them, but they seem like minority. We are missing a music/sfx board on this forum which is a sentral part of any game, but we hope to get one up in the future as many people here would enjoy and have a place to share tunes and get feedback.

Anyways, have fun, and if you ever get bothered by a so-called member called tha_rami, just ignore him. He likes to think he's a member here, but he is really not. Don't tell him i said that though, just play along and pretend he's a human, he'll eventually evaporate when the time is right.

Welcome to TGC

I'm sure your talents will be put to good use as long as you stick around, and maybe show off some stuff over in the 3/2D boards.

We're all pretty laid back around here, as long as the maturity is kept up, so feel free to join in rants, chats, and discussions.

Have fun, and be sure to post if you feel you need any help (that even extends to real-life due to a massive increase in 'Girlfriend' threads around here ).

Enjoy

[EDIT]
Also, for a while you'll notice that your posts don't show up straight away, that's because we have a filter set up to avoid spammers and havoc-reakers called the Post Approval System.
For an undisclosed limit, a Moderator will have to approve your posts before they go live.
(I deleted your double post )

Wow! Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Out of all the forums I have been to (and at times, coded and hosted!) this one is definately the friendliest! I hope to have something to show you guys soon, so bare with me, as I have college classes, a job and a girlfriend.

BTW, if you guys want a little tip on my first project I have planned to create, it's a Psychological Horror game set in First Person View. And at first it sounds totally generic, I'm sure. WRONG.

An example?
No zombies, monsters, mutants, soldiers attack you.
You have and use NO WEAPONS. (the most you might get is a metal pipe to break down doors)

I'd release more but I want to keep my vision a secret until it's started at least. I'll hopefully have a WIP forum up for it soon. I at least want to get a small part of the massive level done (the entire game is based in one big asylum/prison). It's going to be extremely detailed, if anyone would like to help that'd be great!

Ah, you havent been told yet, no team requests are allowed either. I wouldn't call that a tram request, but it triggered something deep in my brain, and I thought I would just say..

Welcome Nickeh, this is a very friendly forum, sure this place will be like a second home before very long.

It's always best to keep a bit quiet about your project until your ready to show it off, that way if your design changes dramatically (which it often can around these parts) - you don't have to explain yourself .

I wouldn't confuse the "friendliness" with those who despite being here a while are still seen as newbies, they just really need the extra friends.

Is really case and point :sigh: unfortunately

Sounds like Prenumbre, where you have to use the environment to save you from the freaky monsters.

I always like Project Zero mind, where you were attacked by ghosts and had to kill them by taking pictures of them with a special camera that sucked their essence.

Not going to say welcome, cause frankly dislike the whole "announcements" of things that I couldn't care less about.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have new blood about; just dislike the whole song'n'dance of newbie announcements.

Well, welcome to the forums, glad to see new members saying hello and one with someone with some talents rather than a fresh newbie. Also, I'm happy to see a new experienced 3D modeller, especially a lightwave user, I can see you have some taste, though I'm a Silo and Cinema 4D user myself. Well hope you get the most you can out of this community, be sure to check out the 3D Modelling challenges over at 3D Chat, I think MikeS is now running them, they seem to have got much more popular since I stopped running them so Mike's obviously doing a cracking job. Of course you don't get a prize with them, but the whole philosophy I had intended in the first place was for the process of competition and improvement really. So give it a shot.

Just watch out for nutters, just as a heads up, er...not that I'm one of them of course, I mean I'm fairly sane, consistent and not in the least eccentric...it's the others like Grandma or Tha_Rami, I mean those two are trouble, just watch out for them, just as a heads up.

Enjoy dude!

Oh my... I think I must be one of the most well-known members around here by now. Grandma, I think I'll join Seppuku for this time and ensure a horrible and painful death for you. I did tell you that if my secret of being a highly sentient alien AI with grammar obsession ever came out, you'd suffer. That you also have leaked how I look in real life is an outright atrocity. I am glad you hid information about the goatee, which contains my RAM memory. Also, you forgot to mention my ally, Lord Voldemort and his ally, Lord Valumart. Thus, in conclusion, I will ensure my creators will fire a gamma ray burst straight through your biggest Hello Kitty factory around.

@NickehG:
* Also watch out for Lucifer, who can be somewhat of a hot-head. He can be quite sadistic at times, honestly. Although, as you can see, he has great modelling skills and absolutely no life, he is a cool guy. What would expect from someone from Iceland. Ice cold. And he calls himself Lucifer. Yes, he has a personality crisis.
* Take care when you encounter Seppuku Arts. You may call him any variation of this name, going as far as Sudoku Arse but no further. Examples are Seppoko Arts, Seppuko Arts, parishiltonlover_xxx and davegrohlisanloser@hotmale.com. Also keep in mind he ran an evil empire which collapsed after genetic experiments with the most powerful organic weapon ever made. Don't screw around with him. He will force you to listen to "Stars have Eyes".
* Grandma secretly runs Seppuku's enemy Evil Empire. He does so under the cover of Hello Kitty factories, although some rumour he has something to do with cookies factories as well. Nothing has been confirmed, only that he can be a grumpy old woman at times.
* Be aware of the struggle between ANJL, the Anti Noob Justice League and the AANJL, the Anti Anti Noob Justice League. Do not choose sides unless you want to be horrifically flamed.
* Also beware of the date 1/1/2008. On this day, TGC's nemesis will return and lay waste to Apollo - Apollo being the actual name of this forum. On this day, the Y2K-bug will strike all of us (it wasn't a hoax, it's actually the Y2.008K bug, but the media thought that didn't sounds as impressive as Y2K), the internet will crash and the world will desintegrate. This could also happen in 2014, when a giant meteor strikes London.
* Don't ever spell definitely correctly. A mod called Ron Erickson will come, remove all your posts and ban you for life. Always spell it definately. This is how he likes it.
* Finally, this post is considered to be a 'Raven'-class post. Whenever you see someone called 'Raven' posting, make sure you move your mouse to the right of the screen and click the word 'toggle'. This wíll save you a lot of problems.

Nevertheless, welcome to these forums. I hope you enjoy your time here and just remember that if you keep to the rules, we're friendly people.

*Munch* *Crunch* *Swallow* Gotcha evil viking overlord, hehehe what kind of cookies are we crafting today? Death cookies, or the usual sugar and oatmeal?

Alright NickehG I'll let you in on what goes on here at the Apollo Fourms.

We're all a nice bunch and as you can see, a lot of the normal geek squad members have come in to say hi and welcome, let me introduce a few of them.

Seppuku Arts- This cat is awesome, always good for a laugh, and knows how to get the jokes flowing, usally his antics are not far followed by one Viking Overlord Grandma, who bakes fresh cookies for us.

Grandma- I work for this viking overlord, supplying him and his troops candy bars in the hopes of reaching our ultimate goal and using Paris Hilton to conquer England and France. Lets not forget his Hello Kitty factories that will rain destruction upon all who oppose him.

Tha_rami- Great guy on this forum who does not enjoy his name being spelled wrong, here are some variations that have been used- the rami, tha_rabi, The RAmbi, Bambi

Lucifer- Seems to have knowlegde of the dark lord voldemort, surely he has a fidelus charm on his home and a reliable secret-keeper lest the death eaters find him and submit him to crucio and avada kedavra.

Zotoaster- All around good guy, don't see much of his antics, usually one of the more sane out of all of us.

Raven- He's opinonated about what he says and man can he say a lot, I am happy to report I have not once toggled any of raven's post, no matter how painful its been sometimes . Just kidding of course.

The Mod Squad- A good bunch here, just don't do anything to piss off or insult the community and these guys can be your friends on here as well.

This forum is a nice place, we're nice folk, but rarely serious, as for me, I am Zombie and I suppose to not sound too conceded one of the nicest on the forums. I stick up for those being flamed unless they're really asking for it . If you need anything just let us know .

Cool, I got complemented! Cheers I guess, depends what usually comes with compliments, I hope you're not expecting a present, I'm a student, despite what people say, we're poor because we naive and don't know how to spend money. Maybe I'll out free pins.

AndrewT, don't let more than 3 freaks into the same thread is the lesson, I think.

Well it seems he's a bit quiet, I hope we didn't scare him off, I thought by now people had gotten used to freaks on society, well ever since the mental hospitals went private.

I hope he has a decent life and hasn't really left us. Otherwise we'll all feel guilty about being weird.

Probably because it's a new guy who can finally out-talent all of us at the same time, twice. Maybe some more useful advice:

1) As people always say, dont dive too deep into a game, and always take your time. I've been working on an FPS game for about a week or two.. I have only got about 2000 lines, and all it does it load levels, and starting to handle players. But, despite the "slow" progress, I have actually laid out alot of ground-work. I have designed a file format and written a parser, and this can be used for any files the game might use, like level data, player data, weapon data, etc.

2) Stay away from Raven when it comes to ideas, because he will chew them up and spit them out again, and crush your life's dreams, and give you no hope for a career... I'm just kidding of course Also, if you don't want to be called a noob, stay away from aluseus GOD, because you will be called a noob so much, that maybe, just maybe, you will start to believe that you maybe are a noob... I'm not kidding of course

Well, that's my two cents. At this rate, you are on your way to becoming rich with all the two cents that people are throwing at you.

To be fair, Raven does come up with useful advice time to time, something I have agreed with him on, but unfortunately he has showed nothing to give his points integrity or anything to back them up. Shame, because I've come to the same conclusion as most people and that he doesn't have anything to show at all.

Anyway, to return to something Aikicat said, can we have some samples of work Nick? I mean it would be interesting to see what 3D stuff you've got out there, as I love seeing new members that like 3D modelling.

Raven Definately(tm) isn't all that bad, if you have an attention span greater than that of a gnat.

One man, one lawnmower, plenty of angry groundhogs.

Welcome to the forums, looks like you've started off on the right foot (experience, decent grammar, first post not something like "Wut iz dis??!?!?!! I N33D CODEZ!!1!1!"), so I think you'll enjoy it here. The people are nice here as long as you're nice to them. You have to watch out for Seppuku and Grandma and their warring empires, I wouldn't get involved if I were you. Grandma has been known to release his army of Hello Kitty robots on all who stand in his way. And like tha_rami said, prepare yourself for 01/01/08, for a great evil lurks, ready to strike once again on that day.
