I wholeheartedly swear that todday - this distinguished day - 10th October 2007, is the glorious day on which our beloved Nintendo revealed Sonic in Smash Bros.

Check for yourself.

Whoa! It's true
Well it isn't, because it's the 10th of October, not the 11th.

That's kinda cool. Solid Snake, Sonic...

Of course, TGC Heroes will be more fun.

I don't know why they bothered, there hasn't been a decent Sonic game in over 10 years!

That's not as bad as you think you said.

No he's not, not by a longshot. They probably did it as kind of a Sega <-> Nintendo partnership.

That's not as bad as you think you said.

I like Samus in her powersuit - that's how she's supposed to be.
Her Zero-suit I'd rather hand to my girlfriend...

The biggest additions for me are Meta Knight, Pokémon trainer and... Cardboard Box A...

Sonic HAS had decent games in the past ten years. They've mostly been handheld though. In case you didn't know, the sonic rush games are like the best sonic games ever.

Just 'cause Sonic isn't that good in 3d doesn't mean his 2d games that are coming out are bad. The Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance games are awesome.

I find it weird to have Sonic in a Nintendo title, simply because there used to be SO much rivalry between Nintendo and Sega. I know Nintendo bought them out and what-not, but it sorta destroys the memory of the old (much more awesome) console wars. Modern console wars are dull. Everyone has similar tech, the only sort of race is who can get the most shaders on screen, boring.

But my little brothers are excited about Sonic in the game. Me? I'm sticking with Samus as my main character, she kicks butt, and you can still use Power Suit Samus (I think) If not I'll be disappointed :\

This looks so awesome. But sega has always been bad at 3d games. They are still great in 2d though.

There was a report about it.
Nintendo and Sony own 50-50 shares or something (it's an equal ownership at any rate) of Sega.

Unless this has changed in the past 4years, might've done but doubt it.
There's still alot of the japanese console politics in the background of the whole situation really. Sega are making new IPs for Nintendo, but not Sony.. quite funny really.

Still Super Smash Bros has always been about that consoles "Heros", no matter the other platforms they're on.

Basically all the Heros from the GameCube generation, are there.
(Hence why Snake is back)

I have never heard that. Links?

EDIT:

Well, just did a quick search and found that so far it's BS. Sorry to say, but Sammy Holdings owns Sega, and has for almost 5 years

Well, maybe I was wrong I don't have any sources, I just heard that Nintendo owned Sega now and were just leaving the Sega name on it so people would recognize it and whatever, but I'm probably wrong.

Personally, I think Sonic was better than Mario from 91-94 (Sonic 1,2,3,&Knuckles,3D) after that well, aside from Sonic's sections in the adventure games, Mario certainly took the crown.

However, if you haven't played Sonic and the Secret Rings, then you're missing out on a 3D Sonic comeback worth playing!

Sonic for the 360/PS3 is however, the most rancid pile of excrement I have ever had the misfortune to play - or rather, watch load.

No doubt the old school Sonic games were the best. My feeling is, the more the merrier... but avoid too many throw ins. Sonic's welcome to the team.

But please... no more bad voice acting

Secret Rings was the stupidest game I had ever played in my life, worse than Quest for Camelot. MAKE YOUR LEAVES REBORN.

I really hope Brawl turns out well. Melee was really good (just finished unlocking the last thing a few days ago) but Brawl looks even more awesome. Ike looks pretty sweet, and Link will always be cool. Pit and Meta Knight look radical as well. I really hope they bring back the zelda/sheik transformation, that was really cool.

On the note of sonic making an appearance, i think he'll be fun to use. He should be really fast and i like fast characters.

Sonic Adventure is the only 3-d sonic I enjoy and probably will be the only one I do, I couldn't stand heroes, what a pile of crud, I was so ashamed by that game, although there were some funny moments in it.

I just saw the video of sonic in smash brothers. He looks like he might be a fun character to play with. I suppose I'm all for it now. Still seems a bit funny though with him in a Nintendo game. He just seems out of place. It's almost like putting Master Cheif in the game LOL.

I know there's that one Olympics (or something) game coming out with Sonic and Mario though, that seems weird too.

I've had a look for the reports but come up with nothing, then again my websearching skills are about on par with the blind flying planes.

I know we've covered this in previous forum thread, but a good few years back before the AUP came in to effect. Someone cited the site that actually provided the details on the Sony-Nintendo ownership of Sega. About the only thing I can find on anyone owning Sega now is from the Wikipedia website; which is hardly concrete proof.

Quote: "People still care about Sonic? Interesting."

I never actually liked the original Sonic games, I mean I liked Sonic as a character over Mario; but the games never really cared for. The new games with multiple-storylines I actually like, but wish they'd put more into the collision and playability. Cause everything feels too loose or unresponsive in all of his latest games (including Shadow and Riders)

I think I liked the old Master System Sonic games best, played them the most I think but that might have just been my distaste for that Megadrive controller. The SMS games were quite a bit slower paced, I think the same goes for the GameGear versions.

The thing about 2D Sonic games that I never quite understood though is the pace, I mean you could be going way to fast to react to anything unless you know the level inside and out - but then take a wrong turning and you end up backtracking for what seems like ages - like a level would either take 30 seconds to complete or 5 minutes!. The worst example I think is later in Sonic 2, when you have those moving platforms on the techno style levels - fall off them and your basically toast. It just didn't seem very fair for a platform game, at least in Mario you could get through the levels without needing to know them so well.

The first SonicDS game is pretty good though if you can stand the fast pace - has lots of neat features - not a patch on the new Mario games but it's ok. But then there's that new Spyro game, and Crash of the Titans is damn good, a lot like the original PSX game. For some retro flavoured DS platform gaming though you can't do better than Contra on the Taito arcade collection - I just wish the 2 player mode had more credits to play with. Track and Field on multiplayer is great fun too. Digressing like a numpty here though, sorry!.

That's the one, water rising and those annoying platforms that kinda rotate in blocks.

After the fairly cool casino level that level annoyed the hell out of me! - that's why I mostly played 2-player sonic 2.

Ah I think you mean Chemical Plant Zone where you have to climb up those constantly moving blocks before you drown. Was always such a pain as Tails, because he couldn't jump as high as Sonic.

That bit was genius. Always difficult enough to get you leaning on the edge of your seat, pressing the buttons with all your might. When's the last time a new game could get you so frantic?

I think the only problems with Sonic 2 were that the levels were in the wrong order, and the ultra cool Hidden Palace Zone was removed. That level was so weird.

Let me reiterate: Sonic 2 was bland.

Hill Top zone felt like filler, Emerald Hill was a cheap imitation of Green Hill with none of the charm, And Aquatic Ruins was, well, a cheap clone of Emerald Hill taken back a few hundred years and filled with water. With the exception of Wing Fortress, the music was also quite dull.

I think there were just too many different zones. 3 acts of half as many zones would've worked out better.
