Hi, Me and Aura have started work this week on a MUD engine and a MUD client. If you don't know what a MUD is, its essentially a virtual world described, and interacted with entirely by text. No images are allowed. The engine being developed will allow anybody to run their own customized text world (no world is hardcoded, so you can change what you want, or throw everything away and make your own world).

The screenshot is from the client which supports multiple PM windows, scrolling, multiple colors and soon it will have inventory and friends lists etc.

Im looking for feedback for what people expect from this kind of game, and what they don't like

Thanks for your time

How do you run your server? This is a question which has puzzled me. Do you just let it sit there?

Oohh, I love this. I've been toying with the idea of creating a online MUD, looks very cool so far. When can we start running rampant on your server?

Pretty cool. I learned "C" on an LPC Mud I used to code for, then I started my own still using LPC.

So how are the rooms going to be coded? Can you give an example of some room code?

I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro!

Cool, looking forward to this.

I am doing something similar (DarkMUD), although probably more simple (at the minute you can only walk around and talk to people, with combat coming later), in DBP for the text adventure compo, but life is getting in the way annoyingly Personally I was going for a 3D map system for manipulating your own MUD adventures.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Thanks for all the feedback

All the world data, such as items, locations, NPCs etc. are being stored as text files. Some things might be LUA scripted for added dynamic ability

The location system we are using is currently 3D

Working on the item system tomorrow. Will report more as I do more.

Aura is working on editors and generators for the persistent in game world
