Here comes another GH vidoe. This guy have his fret buttons visible in the corner of the screen and not only can you see his amazing finger work on the hardest Guitar Hero song but he also does some tapping. Tapping is possible since as long as you hit fast notes properly you do not need to strum (hammer-ons and pull-offs).

I can play better than that on a real guitar.

If you can then I'm sure it's amazing to watch (6 strings and far more frets to play with)

In Guitar Hero you have to hit every note exactly right for them to play (especially on expert) and as long as his multiplier stays up he's not missing a single note.

Not the music he's playing, but the way he's playing.

My point is what's the big deal?

And another one mate

I couldn't do this though. Maybe on a real guitar with a bit of practise but not on some little look-play style thing.

It's a big deal if you have actually tried the game And for non guitar players it might be interesting to watch.

In real guitar you have to hit all the notes for it to sound right

I don't get what the big deal about guitar hero is, it's really not very hard. Ya wanna impress me? Show me someone getting five gold stars on that song on expert.

Yeah, but it doesn't matter if you hit them a bit early or a bit late. It's really hard to play an electric guitar (compared to probably all other instruments) but at least that one little thing is harder in Guitar Hero Of course, if you're a good guitarist then hitting every not properly shouldn't be a problem anyway, nor would it be accepted professionally (I guess? not like I'm in the business).

yes it does it doesn't sound as good. And violin is like guitar, except you don't have frets so you need to always have your fingers in exactly the right place to make it sound exactly right, piano has a lot more going on at once than guitar - you're never going to have 10 notes at once on an electric guitar...

Basically all these things are hard in their own way

Also I was listening to the song and I thought "hey what's the big deal, I could play this on a real guitar" Then it got to 2 minutes in and actually got to the first little shreddy bit. I really need to learn to play properly .

I would like to see Guitar Hero with some Psyopus on. That would be interesting (probably a fair bit harder than any of this lot).

EDIT: This makes me want to practise my guitar some more. I want to learn Detonation now... not really a big fan of the song, but I couldn't really be bothered to learn it before but I just saw they have it in Guitar Hero and I'd like to be able to play some of these. The only one I've ever learnt is Sweet Child Of Mine and I skipped the solos as well as a bit of the Trooper by Iron Maiden. Never liked playing Lead and I'm too lazy to practise properly to get my technique up.

Hardest instrument... the electric guitar? There are many other harder instruments, like the pipe organ, harp, trumpet, oboe, to name a few.

Not trying to argue the hardest instrument, however...

Guitar Hero is mostly for those who can't/don't want to play guitar and like the video game substitute. It's as impressive as beating super mario in 10 minutes or finishing halo 3 on legendary, but I don't find it so impressive that I'll watch videos of a guy pressing buttons.

Um, can you get 100% (yellow stars) on any expert song? Here's a shot of the #1 ranked Guitar Hero player, he have 99% on Jordan on expert which I believe it the best anyone have ever done.

Here's the high score list from Score Hero

I think the hardest instrument would likely be the Didgeridoo. These guys practice for years to sound only a quarter as good as the above guy.

Well, hardest can be defined in many ways. To play a note or a chord correctly on a piano you only need to press some keys. Even I can play a simple double handed melody on a piano that took about 10 min to learn. Doing anything that sounds as impressive on an electric guitar is way harder (I've tried) and there's a lot of techniques you can learn to play on an electric guitar. Even placing your fingers correctly for various chords is really hard, and then speed that up is amazing. Playing something really impressive with 2 hands on a piano might be harder, I have no idea.

Yes, actually I have, though it was one of the easier ones. And I was really joking when I said I wanted to see someone get 100% on that.

I don't get the big deal about this game
Its just a glorified version of Parapa the Rapper (which is awesome)
I saw this vid of a kid playing it (maybe the same one you posted)
and good for him but really its not much of a talent, gives you good timing though

I got 7 on GH1 and 1 on R80. I almost on it on a few on GH2 but not yet.

[href=http://www.scorehero.com/scores.php?user=90351&game=2&diff=4]Here are my GH2 expert scores{/href]. I got some photos of better scores on my phone but my laptop doesn't like my phone and my stationary system is at my parents house. Most of these scores are very old, I just entered them this weekend.

Some people are good at Counter Strike or Quake or whatever, Guitar Hero is just another game. Personally I find it more fun

Now your just talking nonsense (no offense). I've played piano, Organ, Guitar and Electric Guitar. And I find guitar to be pretty easy. To pick up and play.

I think the hardest instruments to play would be things like... Trumpets, trombones etc. I can't even get a note out of a trumpet, let alone stringing together a tune. Also the notes aren't really defined. You have to have a feel for a note. Probably like Jeku is discovering as we speak with his theremin (damn him I want one!).

I don't understand why people spend hours learning and mastering Guitar Hero--- what a complete waste of time. Why not pick up the real instrument and spend hours on it? At least you'd be learning a real skill. </rant>

it makes me wonder why people spend hours playing car sims, when you could be out driving... same difference

I personally, however, agree with you. I'd rather play games doing stuff I can't do, and spend time learning the real thing for anything else

People seem to miss the point of GH up until the time that they actually play the damn thing - it's really a lot of fun to play. Why spend years sounding like crap on a real guitar when you can pick up GH in the space of a few hours, it might be just a hi-tech air-guitar but the bottom line is it's fun, just a matter of not caring how much of a tool you look playing it.

I like rhythm games and up until GH2 there was only the controller, there's no way I'd get on a dance mat - it's not like we think we're playing real guitars, it's a videogame where you have to stop the songs sounding terrible.

It's like DDR, no one cares how good you are at it if you can't really dance...

(not saying that you can't have fun with it, just don't try to impress anyone with your mad skillz lol)

Guitar hero is just fun because you DONT have to be able to actually play guitar, I've tried learning but I've got the attention span of a newt. I do, however, have a good beat and fast fingers, so Guitar Hero is perfect.
That said, it seems to be impossible to find it in shops around here

Ebay might be your best bet Kentaree, probably look at spending £50 or so though, but what is worrying me is the price of GH3. I've got to buy 3 of them, and the listed price in Amazon is £120 - that's just ridiculous, there's no way they can charge that much! - that guitar had better be gold plated!.

Rockband is supposed to be pricy aswell when it comes out, but it comes with a few different peripherals, doesn't it?

Rockband will have guitar, drums, and microphone and was reportedly about £120 - thing is though the rock band guitars look cool as hell, much better than the GH2 360 one, which is worse looking than the PS2 one. I think having 2 guitars for Rockband is pretty vital, just wish my living room was bigger!.

This is from World Series of Video Games (WSVG) in Dallas. Freddy Wong won by jumping around the stage like crazy and I think he got a 2 year contract from some company (him or some other guy), like some players are payed to play Quake etc. The audience sure love him

Been listening a bit to Star Power Podcast and according to them people who haven't tried the game doesn't know how much fun it is, they've met people who changed their opinions after actually trying the game.
