If I can't find a store here in the states that sells it (Bitter Lemon), I may have to get one of you guys overseas to send me some.
Why do we have garbage to eat and drink here in the states, and the rest of the world gets the good stuff?
I spent 3 years in Germany when I was in the Army (Mannheim); I loved the bread/brot, especially when it was hard on the outside and soft on the inside. I used to crack a piece open and scoop out the soft insides. I also grew fond of german wine as well as the beer. Then when we'd go out to eat, you weren't given obscene portions of food (like they do here in the states), it was just the right amount.
Usually when we went to different ethnic eating establishments, we were served by that ethnic group (ie., Italians at an Italian Rest., Vietnamese at a Viet. establishment, people from the UK at an Irish Pub, etc.)...you don't get that much here. I had my first flaming dessert at the Italian joint (strawberry ice cream with a banana, then poured a cup of flaming liqour on it!).
I only saw
1 overweight German while I was there....totally contradicting the stereotype we have over here. I think there's a lot of things that we can learn from our European counterparts, in the areas of health and eating. Not to mention all the bike trails (paved) throughout Germany. We don't have that kind of extensive network in any "whole" State; let alone the country. That would be a great start to helping our overweight population (of which I am a part of) get into shape.
I do like Frozen Coke though...the kind you get at a 7-Eleven.
