They do it for the same reason you bookmark web sites - to make a note of it. I do it all the time, especially if something is on "Buy Now" because I rarely buy those without first waiting to see if I can bid on the same (or similar) item elsewhere - so I stick it on Watch just incase I can't find it somewhere else, Buy Now being my last resort.

I Buy Now if it's something at a decent price that I really need, like my new modem. Only one I could find in the world pretty much for Vista (it's a 56k dialup modem.) I suppose I got ripped, $28 for a 56k modem, but I really needed that thing.

Yeah I'd love to get paid to do nothing... So much.

I watch Buy It Now items when I am searching around, a good ebay shopper does his browsing before buying. You might spot that one super great deal and you'd regret it if you bought that 1st buy it now item. Also. Some may be waiting on a paycheck to arrive before bidding or something like that.

Nah, i'm with Telstra, they're an Australian telco, so you probably don't know of them. Was your modem vista-compatible though? If so... I got majorly ripped.

I use the lowest buy it now as a price guide so watch it.

If I see auction items going over this price then I click "buy it"

Recently did that on a BT Voyager 2110 Turbo modem/router/switch/wifi thingie

That smiley Veron posted seems to allude to some form of dirty wishful thinking. But I think he asks because he uses a 56k modem. Fear not KeoC

Crikey, some of these sellers don't know how good they've got it. Be thankful people are watching your items eh.

Another example is that recently I bought Wipeout pure for the psp off ebay. I'm an avid collector and like the original boxes, and the description didn't mention anything about the game being a platinum edition (infact it had highlighted, "original game"). Im not used to platinum psp games and therefore failed to notice the white on black platinum stripe at the top of the packaging. I asked the seller if he'd be able to put a bit more care into his descriptions and he got so defensive! Its nothing like going into a shop you know, he told me this is how ebay works. If I had a problem then I should ask for a refund, but I didn't want that hassle. He then proceeded to lecture me on how he would lose money if he was honest, as if he was trying to convert me into a similar dishonest seller. I apologised for wasting his time and that now should be the end. I thought it would be nice to know that his customers were buying the things they want, and happy customers are usually always big mouthed and would prefer to return to their favourite shops.

Did I really do such a bad thing? The whole ordeal has made me feel like a right interfering old busy body. I thought it would help!

Thanks for that I needed to get that off my chest.

Sounds like a giant ***hole to me. Here's what I would put on his feedback "Seller believes he won't make money if he's honest. BEWARE*"
