Goodbye social life. Hello numb buttocks, sore eyes and aching thumbs. I now own an xbox 360.

I might look a bit of a 'tard picking one up just before the Christmas/January price drops kick in (if there are any) but I ain't complaining.

I've only stopped playing now because I don't want my eyes to start bleeding.

Had a quick look at the Elite but all the t.v's in this house are practically steam powered and I can always pick up the Hard Drive later if I'm desperate.

I went for the Halo 3 Limited Edition. Normally I wouldn't pay extra for a different coloured console but according to this engadget article: http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/28/65nm-xbox-360s-starting-to-trickle-out/ the Halo 3 360's were the first to ship with the 65nm chip so I thought I'd have a crack and see if I got lucky. If Early Adopters of the 65nm were having any major new problems I'd probably have read about it before now.

Whether or not this makes any difference is beyond me but if I hadn't got it now I'd have been hanging on for whatever revision is meant to be popping up next and I've already done enough hanging on.

Apparently there's less fan noise from these than the white 360's but I never heard one so I wouldn't know, seems reasonably quiet to me though. I'll have to check properly some time.

For games I went for Project Gotham Racing 4 (would have gone for Forza 2 but PGR4 came free with the console) and Gears of War (yeh, I'm a few years behind everyone else lol).

It's top stuff and when I get the money I'll pickup Oblivion for the cold, harsh Winter months possibly with Bio Shock so I can shoot children in the face. Assassin's creed for Christmas sounds good as well and COD4. Ooh ooh and the Orange Box because my PC never really ran HL2 very well. I've gotta fit Dead Rising on that list as well.

It really is a good few years since I've been interested in video games at all. I lost interest when the 360 was released and my PS2 has sat un-used ever since. Now I've got a shiny new 360 I'm as giddy as sin.

No Halo 3 for me yet. I didn't think I'd bother until I'd got Live set up but now I'm thinking I want it anyway. Add it to the list I suppose.

If you'd have asked me back when the console was first launched I'd probably have mumbled something about waiting for the PS3. Pretty sure I made the right decision in picking this up.

Still un-decided as to whether I should call it Sheila or Bruce.

Talking about red ring, after a year of having mine I got the 3 rings of death....but then it started working again , so every day now I sit in fear.

Oh and good move going for a 360! I certainly don't regret my purchase. Good list of potential games you have but don't forget to pick up some of the B/C XBox games, after I got my 360 I was poor and had to live off cheap xbox games for a while (fable, halo1&2 and some others) they are a good cheap thrill if nothing else.

I've had a browse around the interwebs to read up on the 360 return policy (just in case) and I found this link:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/resources/warrantyupdate.htm

quote:
Quote: "Any Xbox 360 customer who experiences a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights will now be covered by a three year warranty from date of purchase. All other existing Xbox 360 warranty policies remain in place."

Now then. In my 360 box I found a form that asks for £60 and to be sent back within 10 days. This will entitle me to free repairs if my box goes wonky or something like that.

If I didn't send this form along with £60 back would I still be covered by the 3 year warranty if my xbox flases its red ring at me?

Anyone? Warranties never were my strong point.

I've already wasted a good couple of hours on my 360 and I'm loving it.

Did you get one of the scratchified Halo 3 disks? I'm having to ship mine back for a new one, won't load the fourth level.

I'm on my third 360 now... hopefully 3rd one's a charm.... but, MSFT was nice enough to send a month free subscription card with my newest one and a letter apologizing... so, if your 360 dies with the 3 red lights, WRITE A LETTER AND PUT IT IN THE BOX WITH IT WHEN YOU SHIP IT TO THEM. They'll give you free stuffses

Intel Pentium 4 3.40 Ghz HT, 1.5 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800, 19" Dell CRT Monitor ... I need to upgrade ^-^

Rofl, they give *everyone* a free month now. Like you I'm on my 3rd console, but had the issue escalated to a manager because it took almost 3 months to service. I asked for something extra and she gave me a free controller, which is pretty decent.

No probs with mine about a year old.

I run it horizontal not vertical. If you stand it vertical you cover some of the air holes.

It realy needs to breath to be happy and not freeze and never move it while a disk is spinning

I hear sweden or some country was suing microsoft over the scratch disk problem.

Picked up a VGA HD AV cable today so I can hook the box up to my monitor. The picture is so much better than the turd party I was getting from the regular telly box.

Only problem is I've had to move the xbox from a nice, open area in front of the t.v. to a tight little nook next to the pea-sea. I'll shuffle things aound tomorrow and see if I can give it a bit more breathing room.
