Goodbye social life. Hello numb buttocks, sore eyes and aching thumbs. I now own an xbox 360.
I might look a bit of a 'tard picking one up just before the Christmas/January price drops kick in (if there are any) but I ain't complaining.
I've only stopped playing now because I don't want my eyes to start bleeding.
Had a quick look at the Elite but all the t.v's in this house are practically steam powered and I can always pick up the Hard Drive later if I'm desperate.
I went for the Halo 3 Limited Edition. Normally I wouldn't pay extra for a different coloured console but according to this engadget article:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/28/65nm-xbox-360s-starting-to-trickle-out/ the Halo 3 360's were the first to ship with the 65nm chip so I thought I'd have a crack and see if I got lucky. If Early Adopters of the 65nm were having any major new problems I'd probably have read about it before now.
Whether or not this makes any difference is beyond me but if I hadn't got it now I'd have been hanging on for whatever revision is meant to be popping up next and I've already done enough hanging on.
Apparently there's less fan noise from these than the white 360's but I never heard one so I wouldn't know, seems reasonably quiet to me though. I'll have to check properly some time.
For games I went for Project Gotham Racing 4 (would have gone for Forza 2 but PGR4 came free with the console) and Gears of War (yeh, I'm a few years behind everyone else lol).
It's top stuff and when I get the money I'll pickup Oblivion for the cold, harsh Winter months possibly with Bio Shock so I can shoot children in the face. Assassin's creed for Christmas sounds good as well and COD4. Ooh ooh and the Orange Box because my PC never really ran HL2 very well. I've gotta fit Dead Rising on that list as well.
It really is a good few years since I've been interested in video games at all. I lost interest when the 360 was released and my PS2 has sat un-used ever since. Now I've got a shiny new 360 I'm as giddy as sin.
No Halo 3 for me yet. I didn't think I'd bother until I'd got Live set up but now I'm thinking I want it anyway. Add it to the list I suppose.
If you'd have asked me back when the console was first launched I'd probably have mumbled something about waiting for the PS3. Pretty sure I made the right decision in picking this up.
Still un-decided as to whether I should call it Sheila or Bruce.
