A friend asked me to make a program for him, and when I compiled it to an EXE it ran fine on my computer. Unfortunately, he had to run it on a particular computer (no idea what it's specs are) and it gave this error message:

Quote: "System Error: Error 165. D3D devices do not support backbuffer bit-depth and HW Acceleration"

What does the message mean?

Just so you know, I'd set the display resolution to be 800x600 in 32-bit depth, without bothering to check if it was supported - is the message saying that this bit-depth is too high for the computer to support?

Also, as regards the Hardware Acceleration - should I just use the command "Set Emulation On" and dump everything on to the processor, or is DB supposed to do that automatically?

I'm way out of my depth here, and my friend would like his program working soon!

Thanks in advance!

You should recompile the program using 800x600x16 display mode to see if that fixes the problem - especially if it's an older machine with a not so hot GFX card.

It means that D3D devices do not support backbuffer bit-depth and HW Acceleration.

I think TDK is right, I also think this message pops up if you are stupid like me and forget to install the right drivers

You don't say...

@OBese87
No need to apologise, I'm not offended at all. Like I said, the computer in question is one my friend has to use, and neither of us had any control over how it was set up or what was installed on it. As a matter of fact, I don't even know which version of Windows it has!

@TDK
Thanks for that suggestion, I'll try it out as soon as I can.
