Not a big Rugby fan (prefer to football/soccer though), but it was the World Cup finals between England and South Africa and we have a pub at the end of the street, so it's something unmissable to watch.

Okay, I may sound amused, but it seemed like a painful lose, I mean we didn't get the tri for goodness sakes - I kind of think we should have got that and because of the ref the pub got very anti-Irish.

And well, everytime I watch a big match something comical always happens, okay this wasn't as funny as Zidane's trick from football, but pushing the guy over the barrier into the camera you must admit is a classic thing to do. Though I do see the point of people getting aggressive it's a game for goodness sakes - I saw some of it play between some of the players...started to look a bit like football I think...I just hope people don't start throwing tantrums and faking injuries...hehe if that happens just get Mr T to the rescue...

Anyway, sad thing we lost, congrats if we have any South Africans on the forums...if not then let me rephrase this thread to something more aggressive and call you guys 'cheating b******s'

So who else watched the Rugby final?

Hehe it was, England got some good offense in there, but couldn't keep it. I think they volleyed (or whatever the technical term is) the ball too often as they could have played the ball on and keep the ball instead of literally giving it to the opposition.

Up with South Africa, I absolutely hate England.

Wasn't the ref from New Zealand? Paul Honiss reffed I think. Unless you mean about the try he gave "no try" I could be wrong though, the game started at 4AM over here.

Boring game, up with Argentina!

I dunno, may have not been that guy but one of the lesser 'refs', but to be honest I payed more attention to what the players and the ball were doing, but everybody in the pub thought he was Irish...but judging by their drinking, I would assume that he could have been Japanese and they wouldn't have told the difference.

You would, you're Australian, so you can't hack it that we made it into the finals...

Don't worry, the feeling is mutual; but we have a win against you to show for it

The ref couldn't call that though. It was too close and too important just to have one view on it. It was the Australian video ref who made the bad call about the try. He took a lot of verbal abuse from some of my mates... If they plan to carry out what they said he might need bodyguards

Oh well, the celebratory champagne and cigars turned into commisoratory champagne and cigars, and there was a lot of beer, and to be honest I'm neither patriotic nor a sports fan. I did notice that the South African guy we watched the game with kept quite quiet around the aggressive, rugby-mad, drunk, immature guy who we watched the game with. I was quite worried that he then went off to the pub within an hour of the game finishing with a South African hat on... I should probably ring soon and check that he's still alive.

I think he took a lot of verbal abuse across England and probably loved by the South Africans (And Irish, Welsh and Australians of course) I'd repeat some of the things people said, but this forum is family orientated...

Man I watched it too, even though I have never watched a rugby match before this one! But I just simply prefer football!

I wouldn't say he was loved accross South Africa. I think they'd have preferred to beat us in a fair game. Or at least some of them would. And to be honest, we had our moments, but at things like the line outs they were consistently giving us a right kicking, so I don't think us getting that try would have guaranteed us the win, like some people did

Argh, for 2 weeks after that I refused to go to work, I just stayed cuddled up in bed muttering "next time we'll show that bloody Wilkinson" over and over.

I want to come to England just to see how bad the beaches really are... as long as you don't bring up 2003 i'm moderately happy.

Anything to get off work...I might try that one actually, sounds effective...

Well literally, of course not, I mean I'm sure there's plenty of good sports over there, I was just joking is all, hence there Ireland, Wales and Australia in my comment.

Well next time we'll win, I mean we need to make up for what we're crap in Football, Tennis, the Olympics, Racing etc. in our Rugby and Cricket. By owning the game!

It's actually pretty effective, since even the boss was probably doing it.

Hmm, did you watch those Ashes this year?[randomtalkingtomyself]What can I hear in the back of my head? 5-0? Really Anthony, Australia won 5-0? That's very nice isn't it![/randomtalkingtomyself]

Haha, well Cricket is too boring for me to even care about... I mean only Australia can be good at a sport that nobody cares about...

Nationality-related vendettas aside, I think all the teams played exceedingly well throughout, and I'm pleased that we didn't get totally thrashed by SA

Well done South Africa.

Indeed, it was a good game from both sides, I do agree, I suppose we can't keep the glory to ourselves in Rugby, second place isn't so bad at all - maybe Australia will get it next time, but the Englishman inside of me says 'that'll never happen', but the Irishman says 'viva la Australia and show those Brits how it's done...' (And Viva la South Africa for beating them)

This is why I hate being part Irish, part English.

As does everyone else. By miles. But when it gets to the end of a competition where England actually have a chance of winning, then that changes things a little.

Now hope that Hamilton doesn't drop the ball again otherwise will be a bit of a naff English weekend. Esp with European Cup looking really unlikely.

Cheers

True-England do suck at football!
And don't say I'm being mean-I'm English too!
But I only watched it because England were in the finals!
