Well, after
three hours of attempted installation of Ubuntu, I have failed to install it.
Steps taken
1 * Started install with
2 * Errors occurred
~ A bunch of the following types of error occurred ~
ata1.00 exception EMask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 Frozen
cmd c8/00:08:00:00:00/00:00:00:00/e0 tag 0 cdb 0x0 data 4096 in
~ The following occurred twice, after around 8 of the above errors ~
Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0
~ The screen then went blank for 5-10 minutes with only a blinking cursor. I was able to type, but no matter what I typed, I wouldn't really get a response ~
3 * The installer portion appeared. I chose the US keyboard layout.
4 *
Hangs at 0% of "detecting hardware for cd-rom" for around 5 minutes
5 * CD ROM gets scanned for software, supposedly
6 * Installer loads additional components
7 * Detects network hardware
Hangs at 0% for several minutes.
8 *
After several more minutes after the network prompt goes away Installer configures network with DHCP
9 * Message Occurs:
Quote: "Your network is probably not using the DHCP protocol. Alternatively, the DHCP server may be slow or some network hardware is not working properly."
I chose
Do not configure the network at this time.
10 * I entered in the hostname as
aaron.
11 * The installer attempts to detect disks.
Hangs for several minutes at 0%, then disappears and hangs for several more minutes
12 * Message Occurs:
Quote: "No disk was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your disk drive, you can select it from the list."
13 * I went through the following list of options/drivers, each one failing <If one has ' - problem' by the name, go back to 12>

~ I stopped here ~
14 * Installer starts up the partitioner
15 * Message Occurred:
Quote: "This is an overview of your currently configured partitions and mount points. Select a partition to modify its settings (file system, mount point, etc), and free space to create partitions or a device to initialise its partition table."
The following options were given:
Help on partitioning
Undo changes to partitions
Finish partitioning and write changes to disk
<Go Back>
There was nothing I could do with any of these options other than to "get help" on partitioning and look at messages explaining no partition was selected (Considering there were none to select).
I think that's about it.
Cheers,
