Wondering if it is possible to change the BIOS software to another "brand" like Dell to AMIBIOS (etc) (excuse my not knowing...)

Any help is appreciated...

definately not. You'd have to flash the rom with a different firmware and there's really no "universal" bios that just builds menu options based on detected hardware. So the chance of finding a compatible firmware for a mobo it wasn't specifically written for is highly unlikely.

Cept maybe Linux-Bios, it is possible to swap between bios of the same chipset - but you'd have to recopile some aspects for the particulars.

BIOS code quite frankly isn't too much more than the UI, and then basic memory access areas for the interupts, dma, etc. Although make that sound like it is like changing a lightbulb, it does take way more experience with low-level programming than that.

Still with Flash-bios now being standardised it is quite simply to tinker, provided you don't mind potencially loosing the board or screwing up hardware be incorrect accessing. That said provided you setup the system to always check say the A: drive on boot for the default BIOS image checksum and reflash that then you'd golden.

there's probably no option as dell doesn't want you to do it. Also, you likely can't use another bios, as dell's mobos are proprietary, and even if not, I'm sure linux bios only works with a very small number of mobos.

I had a power supply failure recently and in my messing around to try and get it running again i removed the BIOS battery. My boot up don't give me any HP messages anymore and lucky XP don't moan either that it's not the OEM who installed it. Phew
