Well, I'm just about wrapping up my first web design job for a local bulldog breeder. I now truly realize how nice it is to work from your bedroom for a profit. I just made about a weeks profit of *real* work from a week's worth of normal freetime (i.e. evenings and weekends).

The website is http://www.mybodaciousbulldogs.com for anyone interested. Ugly little buggers but if you live nearby and like bulldogs go ahead and buy one!

The lady said she has already been in contact with 3 people who found the dogs through the website and the site has only been up for a week and in an under construction state half of those days. I'm glad it's working out for her.

I just have a few small compatibility issues with I.E. but like I said, they're small, you may not even notice and I'll be fixing them tomorrow most likely. Other than that, I'm going to add auto generated thumbnails to the gallery and the site will be finished.

I have possibly 2 more web design jobs lined up in the near future and one's pretty big. I should be able to make a bundle off of it!

Those are the ugliest "dogs" I've ever seen. Next to all these Chihuahuas that live I constantly am seeing because I live near the border.

I use 1st Page 2000 (2006 stinks) to program the site. And used HTML, CSS, PHP for the actual site. I used CuteNews for the news posting though now I know now that I have the knowledge to program my own and I may just do that on my next sites.

Bulldogs rule. We used to have one, but they get sick easily. Also if they get fat their bellies drag on the ground, which is very dangerous for their health. They are not a "natural" dog per se, as they must be born through C-section. But I love them

Considering it's about such ugly dogs, that's one hell of a sexy beast of a website.

Its an add-on for Firefox where you can embed Internet explorer in the Firefox tabs.
I find it useful for quickly switching between Firefox and IE to check compatibility issues.

MultipleIEs is quite handy. It allows you to install IE versions 3, 4.01, 5.01, 5.5 and 6 all at the same time. I don't bother with anything less than 5.5 but it's nice to have the option.

Nice site. IMO the top banner graphic is a bit too big but the colour scheme is clean and easy on the eyes.

Thanks Soapyfish, yeah, I've heard about multiple IE, but I haven't given it a try yet. I think if people aren't using at least IE 6 now then we shouldn't cater to them ^_^

The top banner sorta has to be that big. The woman requested I use that photo of her dogs on the main page, and because there isn't much more to the left and right of what you see on the banner image it really can't be made any smaller otherwise it would take away from the dogs themselves, know what I mean?

Over 3000 Hits, not bad. Did you submit it to search engines?
I'll submit it to Kumkie.com.

Hehe, I dunno about 3000 hits, did you just check it within the last half hour? LOL. I'm trying to add a homemade hit counter and eventually a unique visit counter, but for some reason it's incrementing the number by 2 each hit.

And if there are 3000 hits they are probably all from me testing it

EDIT: this problem is ridiculous, it's like the page gets loaded 2 times. I can't find a reason for it to increment the counter by 2 each time... Got a friend looking at it and he's stumped too... He's made numerous sites too.

Well, notepad is all fine and dandy, but if you use an editor you can have syntax highlighting like in DarkBasic where you get colored words and stuff. Sometimes code editors have easy to use built in tools for indenting and other various things.

WOOT. Got the problem fixed. Ok... it was completely ridiculous and both me and my friend are still baffled by it.

I had a <table background="#FFFFFF" width="900" height="600"> That was the only thing I hadn't yet defined in CSS and it really wasn't necessary too as I wouldn't be using those settings elsewhere. Whatever made him decide to remove that and add it into the CSS file is beyond me but miraculously it worked. The counter only increments 1 time now. If anyone can offer some insight on this I'd appreciate it. Lol, but for now I can only laugh.

Umm, this particular site I charged $250. She was quite happy to pay it so I guess I did ok. She works for an IT company though so I'm sure she knows that this is a pretty low number overall

This was the first site I ever built for someone else and also the most advanced as far as the photo gallery / photo gallery control panel goes. I had to learn a lot to make this site. Actually I had no idea what I was doing when I started learning PHP and CSS last week. LOL. I guess I caught on fast though

I am going to add a guestbook to the site by her request as well. I'm going to hand code it for the fun and challenge, though it shouldn't be too tough.

Well. I REALLY need to go to bed now... I have to wake up for work in less than 7 hours >_< I hate when I do this to myself, lol.

$250 in one week is not a lot, but congrats all the same. The site looks nice

Well, it wasn't full time work or anything. I'd have to say if I worked full time on it, it would have been maybe 4 days. So that's pretty decent money for me, considering what I was doing compared to what I normally do

CGJ, try something like ConTEXT of Notepad++ if you really want a minimalistic development environment as well as having Syntax highlighting. Notepad is fine and can do the job but what's the point in trying to be 1337 about something that in actual fact helps not that much. I mean Notepad doesn't even give line numbers so debugging code is a pain in the proverbial...

I agree, people who think its good that they use notepad clearly aren't as experienced as they like to think they are.

I use 1st Page 2000 for my web coding. I'm wondering what programs others may suggest. 1st Page 2000 is getting dated and it's successor 1st Page 2006 seems very buggy to me... It crashes alot (or at least it did when I tried it a month or so ago). I'm not looking to spend a lot of money and free is ideal... Any suggestions?

Problem is you'd have to pay taxes on that, so it's likely you made far more in 4 days at your regular job

But congrats none the less!

Implementing thumbnails into the gallery. Success is just around the corner... Actually thumbnails are fully working. It's getting them into a proper layout that isn't working right. Dangit stupid problems. Should be working soon...

EDIT: Woot! Got the auto generating thumbnails implemented now. This is cool. Check out the gallery, it's a good bit different now!
