Hi.

I'm currently working on a game with Multimedia Fusion 2.
The intro animation (like EA Games, EA Sports etc.) is a video, 10 seconds long.

The video is implemented in the game and it must run on ALL computers with WinXP. Therefore, I can't use videos encoded with DivX for example.

The possibilites of the default WinXP without any additional codecs are limited. WMV works. MPEG 1 works. MPEG 2 doesn't.

My video runs well as MPEG 2. Or PAL DVD (whatever codec). I have to convert it to WMV or MPEG 1. And I can also directly export it from Ulead Video Studio as MPEG 1 or WMV. I've tried for days and haven't found a solution yet.

WMV -> it's ok but it is too small. I need it in 720x576.
MPEG 1 -> there's slight flickering.

Any ideas?

Here is the video, two versions. You can take either. I'd be thankful if you could have a look and tell me how I can get a WMV in 720x576 or MPEG 1 in good quality, without flickering.

Any post about codecs and videos in games just makes me instantaneously think 'Bink', but obviously that doesn't help in this case :/

Why not just use AVI (not DivX encoded ones)?
I'm fairly certain that Windows can play standard AVI files.

If not, simply add DivX to the installation process - detect if it's already installed, and if not, prompt saying "DivX needs to be installed to view video sequences within this game", and then everything should work

Avi could work but there is no single "avi" format. You have to choose a special coded, such as Indeovideo, Intel video, Microsoft RLE etc.

The problem is that Ulead Video Studio can only export it to a version too new for default WinXP.

And no, installing DivX only for 10 seconds of intro (LLCP) is not good.

MPEG 1 didn't flicker with another fx effect, maybe I should do without the current effect. Hm.

Uncompressed AVI could do it, but 10 seconds could be very very steep size-wise

The game will be around 8 MB so a 10 second intro should be 1 MB the most.
