The first episode was shown on Adult Swim at 12:00 Saturday night (that's when the following episodes will be aired as well).

I read the manga, which was great. I usually don't read manga except for Hellsing. The anime is supposed to be excellent (the whole series already ran in Japan. It has 30-something episodes, I think).

If you missed the premiere, you can watch it at adultswim.com (they have series premiers on their video site).

The first episode was really good. I hope the rest of the series is good as well.

Anyone seen it?

DON'T READ THE POST ABOVE IF YOU DON'T WANT EVERYTHING SPOILED!!

good job, Arkheii >.<

Accoun - since it has never been aired in USA before, unless you have been to Japan or something, you shouldn't have been able to see it. (Unless you were doing something illegal )

First of all, a mod should edit/remove the post by Arkheii as it is a major spoiler. Its like someone tells you the ending of Halo 3 before you've played it.

As for the anime itself, it is pretty much one of the best in recent years, to the point that even non-anime watchers will love. Each episodes is full drama and suspense, and once the episode finishes you will crave for more.

Theory is when you know something, but it doesn't work. Practice is when something works, but you don't know why.

I think most anime is too obnoxious with multicolored hair and exagerrated emotions. (Except for Trigun. Trigun is funny) But Death Note is really serious, but really fun.

@UFO
I agree with that about a lot of animes. But some are just really cool or funny to watch.

I've never seen Death Note before. Maybe I should try to find it, in Japanese. I can't stand watching dubbed anime, sounds horrible. BTW, sharing fan subbed anime in US is not exactly counted as illegal. When a series/movie gets licensed it's a different story.

If you like this anime then I can recommend Witch Hunter Robin (also available in English) as well as Shingetsutan Tsukihime (Tale of the moon princess), a sort of vampire tale, and Bakuretsu Tenshi (I think Tenshi means angel or angel wings) a team taking on missions using a mech. Oh, and not to forget Gantz, about dead people involved in a sort of hunting game.

You may also like Berserk, a fantasy anime (barely any magics), about a guy with a big sword growing up in a group of mercenaries.

*sigh* Why does this thread have to go to fansubs?

It is NOT legal, even if it has not been licensed. They just don't go after you. Since it is not legal, Please don't mention it again.

And BTW, Death Note is licensed by Viz media. ok? P
I think the dubbing for Death Note is great so far. The voices seem right, and Light's laugh does a great job at making him seem freaky.

You can usually find licensed anime on DVD, we get them even here in Sweden, usually imported from US. We also get some anime subbed to Swedish both on DVD and on TV. If you are interested in any of those animes I mentioned you might find them on DVD, especially Witch Hunter Robin. They are all very old series, I saw Berserk like 10 years ago.

English dubs always sounds a bit off. It's just like watching Swedish dubs of American cartoons. They are never of the same quality. If you get used to listening to Japanese (which at first can sound awful) you might enjoy that more, of course you would have to read the lines. On DVDs you can usually choose between English or Japanese speech. As English is not my natural language I went through this "process" twice, I learnt to appreciate non dubbed English cartoons early and it didn't take long to start prefering to read lines instead of listening to dubbed animes.

Well, I've seen some clips and trailers of of Death Note in Japanese, and the dubbing seems just like the Japanese people's voices. Some dubs (Fullmetal Alchemist's is supposed to be great) are still good though.

But, I agree, that dubbing things from other languages must be very challenging.

Death note's going to be on tonight!

Not over here, and probably never will Maybe next year we can find it imported, if it's released on DVD. For those who own a DVD player capable of playing American DVDs.

If you like Trigun then check out Get Backers on DVD, or the manga.

Well, you can't really judge an anime only on it's opening, but this do set a tone and style It's obviously for young girls. Filled with some traditional anime characters (suits like to put these in because they think people like them). There are worse animes out there

Too true. Due to time, I've seen only the first episode of Lucky star, but it was decent and made me laugh quite a few times.

If you like Berserk, you may want to take a look at Claymore. Similar ambiance and albeit having a slow start, once the story begins, it is quite enjoyable.

And now to continue with the "obnoxious with multicolored hair but funny" links:
