I can't find any for less than £600 that isn't laptop-specific. I'm after a pair of 512mb or 1gb sticks - but as you can see here, it is probably cheaper to buy a new computer. Not that there's any in stock. Does anyone here know where I might get some cheaper, or maybe have some lying around they're willing to sell? It's discontinued.

wow, major ripoff. Is HP retarded? What speed do you need? Cause I just found tons of 1gb sticks for under $50.

AFAIK you don't need all your modules to have the same speed, they will all run at the max of your motherboard or the lowest speed of all modules. I'm not sure if this is 100% true or if it also applies to laptops. You could ask at a store or contact a manufacturer.

Dell laptops will actually NOT underclock the ram speed, so be careful of possible others. I'm not sure about HP.

I'm not trying to install it into a laptop. I thought that by doubling my PC's memory, it might increase performance a little in Oblivion as it uses 600mb of memory - 100 more than I have.

Aye, it would, if you're on a pc you should be able to buy standard ddr400 memory, it should work just fine (of course it'll only still run at the 200 mhz clock).

Most (or all) motherboards for stationary systems should have no problems running memory modules that are too fast, AFAIK! But then DDR 200 is old, maybe time for a complete upgrade?

Not necessarily. Look up your mobo, you might be able to run at an 800mzh FSB (with ddr400 memory). You could just buy the appropriate memory and processor.

Nope. It is only compatible with 200mhz unbuffered DDR RAM, as dictated by the manual. I probably can't afford anything new.

I think it's time for a new purchase. Stuff that old gets really expensive to maintain and upgrade.
