I do not go to the school of my town. Instead i go to a regional vocational school. While on the bus everyone of us started getting calls reporting that someone was shot, or 2 people got beaten with baseball bats to death in the town school, the school was on lock down etc. (All the schools were on lock down). Then someone with a gun was arrested in a CVS near the center of the town. Another caller told us that our mentally unstable buddy (who is a dropout and a homeless person) stabbed someone. While on the bus we tried piecing things together but after many calls, figured out that officially only one person was killed. When we arrived there were 5 helicopters circling the center. Since all the schools were on lock down, i thought i might look like a suspicions student who is not in school. So i decided to watch the news from the safety of a pizza place across the street. Officially it has been confirmed by the news that an elderly man and his daughter were beaten by baseball bats. The old man died. They also talked about a gunshot or something.
Meanwhile an entire block in the center was surrounded by police units from every neightboring town. There was a squad with people who had M16 machine guns. They even had snipers on the roof. they stood like that for 2 hours. They believed there was a guy there with a gun or something (1 guy with a gun against practically a swat team, what was he doing there for 2 hours the cops were so afraid of? holding hostages?) later they arrested a suspect who ran from the crime scene of the murder. The dogs chased him down.
I also saw two guys with hands raised come out of the cvs but no one commented anything on it. later it was figured out that the people who claimed to have a gun didn't have anything. and were arrested for disturbing the peace.
On that story a friend of mine who knows everything and everyone not to mention the gossip all over the town told me that the guy came into a pizza place next to the cvs, ordered a pizza, went to the bathroom, came out wearing different clothes and asked to order a taxi. Someone thought it was too suspicions and called the cops.
On the same day, a neighboring town same small, peaceful, safe and rich suburban town as the one i live in (if not richer) had a convenience store robbed for 60 dollars.

Needham (my town) is a boring town but every year a student commits a suicide or dies doing something stupid. I already knew something will happen this year, but i never expected something this massive. In fact,i remember that last year i had a dream of something like this happening in Needham.

wel there ya go folks

Crazy.
Did you know the old man or girl that were beaten?
What about the people in the school, did they have to get evacuated and what-not?

Who was calling you. And also who are "We". And by the sounds of things you went home and it started to calm down. It seems very far-fetched dude. SO I'm guessing its fake. But anything can happen on earth.

I have got to say, I am kind of intrigued by the term 'Reverse 911 call'. We don't have that in the UK. Just looked up what it is and apparently it means they can target all the mobile phones in a particular area. That's pretty clever. I am guessing its a similar method to how the breakdown services here can triangulate your location when you call them.

@Pagan: Yikes, nice town you live in, you'd think if there's a suicide by one of the students every year, someone would get the hint and try and make life a bit better for people.

What even makes it sadder is the fact that he did not only fail at life, but he even failed at his very last deed. I don't think he got away easy by killing himself, he failed to get even that right and had to die slowly, thinking that he can't do anything right. I used the term "right" loosely.

Peter, if you are trying to stop a maniac kid with a gun, you're most likely going to be injured or killed in the process.

I'd just do what I see on TV. Move closer but keep the kid calm as he aims the gun at you. Then, when your close enough, quickly and simultaneously smack the gun away from aiming at you, and lean sideways away from the direction of his aim. Then I'd tackle him and go freestyle on his ass until the gun is away from his reach. Stupid, yes I know, but what the heck.

True, but how many people will get injured or killed if you don't? is your life more valuable than theirs? You might get shot without stopping them, but if you're not the only person trying to stop them, they can only pull the trigger so fast.

Quote: "I'd just do what I see on TV."

Let me know how that works out. Most likely it wouldn't be that kind of tense dramatic moment that you see in TV. If they've already shot someone they aren't going to deliberate about shooting another. You wouldn't have time to scoot up too them.

[edit] hey, but i do admire that you would try! (or at least say you would).

Let's not be annoying.

CVS is one of those a pharmacy/store places like Rite Aid, where they sell pretty much everything and then have a pharmacy counter somewhere in the store. I have no idea what it's called though.

That's not as bad as you think you said.

unless, he shot some one but never was really ready for it, and is shaken up. that would be the time to strike...

so, if any of us are cornered by a crazy kid with a gun, we know what to do.

im my school they told us to hide in the classroom and hopes the crazy guy goes away. okay, thats gonna work well when the crazy guy decides he doesnt have enough time to search every classroom, and just bust in one of them....

If they were in a rational state of mind then that might work, but in the real world, when people get in those situations (gunman or victim) they are very tense and likely to overreact to the slightest thing out of fear.

I'd have to say that if I were in a situation with a gunmen pointing a weapon at me and my friends any sort of opportunity I could find would be the gunman's last mistake. I'd like to think that's how it would go.

It's better to go down swinging than to have never swung at all. I mean, hey if you're gonna get shot anyhow might as well make the most of it and try to save everyone. I don't think I'd show much mercy either. After all a maniacal gunman doesn't really deserve any and if there was already a death on his hands I feel it would be justified.

Yes, I don't know too many people that will jump in front of a gunman to stop him from *maybe* shooting a complete stranger. For one thing you don't know if he'll shoot anyone in the first place, so jumping in front of him would be completely stupid. For another thing, your brain will be racing a mile a minute and you will probably freeze from terror. It's not like Hollywood

I was assuming he had already started shooting people... and hopefully you don't have to jump in front of him

Quote: "It's not like Hollywood"

Don't steal my line

But it's really something you have to have sorted out before the situation (if you are ready to die or not)... because if you're not sure, then you aren't going to be able to decide quickly under pressure.
