As much as I might agree with your philosophies about the two-party system being bogus, I still feel that getting a decent person in office will require sacrifices, and I doubt we'll see the two-party system leveled in the next few presidential elections. And I really do like Obama's message (which I'll get to shortly).
And if Ron Paul was planning on quitting the Republican party down the road, why didn't he save a bit of money and register as a Democrat (according to Stephen Colbert, registering as a Democrat candidate costs something in the neighborhood of $2,500, whereas registering as a Republican costs $35,000)? He billed himself in the past as a "True Republican," and once said something to the effect of his party being hijacked by the misfits running things currently (I think that was said on Bill Maher?).
Quote: "I not actually sure what Obama stands for, I don't think I have ever heard him say anything about his platform, only dissing others."
Well, he certainly panders to the mudslinging fans out there, I can't argue that. But his speeches are filled to the brim with his ideals and plans: getting rid of lobbyists, ending the war (he's been against it from the beginning, unlike Hillary, and also has a plan to get us out), promoting environmentalism and alternative fuels, election reform, improving our public image in the rest of the world, and a slew of other issues.
I disagree with his ideas about improving health care though. I think the only way to fix the health care crisis in the United States is to get rid of insurance companies and opt for universal health care, as has been proven to work in Great Britain and Canada. I'd pay extra taxes, without complaints, to never have to deal with insurance companies ever again. A woman recently died in the waiting room of a hospital, and as I understand it, it had to do with her not having health insurance. It's a pandemic and needs to be stopped.
And while I'm complaining, let's reform pharmaceutical corporation operations while we're at it. Am I the only person in the United States who recognizes the serious threat we're facing from these drug peddlers? I want a politician to take a stand against what these companies are doing. They create a drug which cures the symptoms of some medical problem, which creates side effects healed by other drugs, and the chain keeps rolling along until you're more sick than you were when you started out. Find me one person in the world who
actually suffers from "restless leg syndrome," and truly needs that medication, I dare you! These companies are getting rich at the expense of human lives, and most people don't seem to care. And I'm sure someone will accuse me of inventing an issue, or being some sort of conspiracy theorist, but I honestly think this is an epidemic and needs to be stopped before it's too late. I was a kid in the 1980's and no one I knew was as "sick" as they are today, and if you need to find the culprit, you don't need to look much further than the drug ads running on TV 24/7/365. Someone should speak out against that
