Greetings!

I have just seen in the news that bill gates, the inventor of windows, is going to make an end to windows xp. He is going to stop supporting it and maybe also install viruses on it to get people to upgrade to vista. Lots have already upgraded. Vista is also less user-friendly and takes up 2 times more processing time and space. Of course Darkbasic runs on vista, but it will run 2 times slower including all of your games too.

So what exactly has this to do with DarkBasic?
I am one of the many many people that gave up windows and switched to macOS or Linux. So my question is:

Has anyone seen any program which converts the DarkBasic compiler to a Linux or Mac application? Or have the game creators made a Darkbasic version for those operating-systems?

Thanks

TheComet

Linux maybe when using Wine.

XP support will end in 2014, so it's not something to worry about quite yet.

Well, I have Wine installed and I can run a couple of games, but Darkbasic does not work, because Linux has not got a regestry.

I guess your right about that one... Baloney!

I do not believe that matters if you just run editor.exe. the Launcher won't work though.

IMO Vista is more user friendly, and it has DX10, and I seriously doubt that everything runs two times slower. Why is everybody so anti-Vista...

For me, it's not a question of speed or user-friendliness. It's the fact that you have to have the Internet with it (and while I like using it, I much prefer keeping my personal computer separate). Also, there's the fact that Microsoft keep records of every program you have installed - and I rather resent the way they could check up on me like that.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't heard anything for ages but when Vista first came out I did hear that this was the case...)

On our way 'ome, on our way 'ome...

Yup. It's all been confused in the press with end dates between 2008 and 2010 being quoted, but the actual final date is 2014 - it's not in MS's interests to correct anyone as they want you to buy Vista now, not wait until then.

End dates: http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&x=16&y=12&C2=1173 (Home edition has the same dates).

You can find out what is covered by mainstream & extended support here: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy

And of course it's absolutely awful to actually use!

Yes, it will run on Linux or Mac. Ofcourse, soon is relative. I like to say just a while ago some reptile species went extinct due to a meteor smashing into our planet. That soon.

Yeah, Windows xp ends in 2014, but they will stop supporting it in may next year.

I disagree with "windows vista doesnt run 2 times slower".
I guess you just have a faster computer than you had with xp. Why dont you look at the CPU usage with vista? Its much higher than any other operating system.
