Black Mountain

Ok, my project is almost complete. I just need to add music and voice overs to it.

STORY:

Ok, Matt Devon (You) is a security guard off-duty in a secret laboratory, high in the mountains; it’s his first day on the job. He starts wondering what he’ll be guarding while he’s here. When suddenly, the lights all shut off, and Matt starts hearing gunshots and screaming outside his apartment. After about three hours of this, the noises stop… All is quiet, dead quiet. Matt spends the next hour in his apartment under strick orders not to leave his apartment under any circumstances. While spending this long, terrifying hour in his apartment, he starts listening for more of the noises he heard earlier. He then decides to disobey his current orders to come out of his apartment to see what happened. Just before he leaves his apartment, he grabs his pistol off a table and walks out of his apartment… There’s a strange smell in the air… Matt starts to hear groans and grunts in the next room. He opens the door thinking it’s his fellow guards wounded and in need of help. He can see them, and they see him. But, suddenly, they screech at him and start shooting. As he is taking cover and shooting back, he can’t help but wonder… Why would his fellow guards shoot him? Something had happened here… And he seemed immune to what was doing it. When the smoke settled from all the shooting. He then saw his fellow guards, dead. He then hears more guards coming to see what was happening. He doesn’t hesitate to run before they get to where he was… And that's the first mission.

Now what would a tool man be doing with boxes with orange circles on them? Hmm...

A Computer Room... You could make a lot of FPS Games with these. lol.

Amazing how the heavest of things can be held by the smallest of threads...

Looks really cool! It just needs some lighting though.

Upcoming computer: Vista Home Premium, AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual-Core 5600+ 2.8ghz, Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB, and 2 gigs of RAM all at $1600... WOW

My lights aren't working in the editor and test game... I put in the lights... Only the characters get the lighting... So, I guess I could add to the story that the lights we're shut off.

Nice! Dude need anything. Ask me And BTW the reason the characters only get affected is because the lights are probably static. Change it to Dynamic.

Changing lights to dynamic is basically saying "Please lag fpsc, I really want 7 frames per second."

You guys really like it?

Anyways... Almost all of the objects you see in here are all static... So, the lights play in to add the "Light's Power being cut" effect until I can fix it.

Well, if the power is cut, then why are the lights still on the machines? Take away the illumination maps, and possibly retexture them for a good effect.

@Inspire: Like retexture how? And How do I take away the illumination maps? I'm new to that.

@s4real: I'm not mad... Just for some reason my lights aren't working... At all... I don't want to reinstall FPSC because I fear it will corrupt my map files like it did before... So, I would also have to re-download all my stuff and put all the stuff back... I'll ask what DF thinks of it without the lights... I might just get rid of all the lights.

@Deathead: I know why the lights aren't working... Would it have an effect if almost all of the maps entites we're static?

Orrion, I love the layout you've given, it's very nice looking from the screenies!

I also like the comments you gave with your screenshots. Wonder who gave you that idea? Lol

Quote: "Well, if the power is cut, then why are the lights still on the machines?"

UPS? (Uninterruptable Power Supply)

Back-up power for emergencies, so systems aren't lost? Could be a number of things, really.

Nice idea Plystire. Because of that I can say this line, Matt, "Your a scientist right? Then tell me how the lights are still on." Scientist, "UPS." Matt, "The package system?" Scientist, "Uninterruptable Power Supply, we get it from a small stream nearby."

Thanks... I might not put that in but, thanks.

Did you read the rest of the post? My lights aren't working... I'll have to re-install FPSC, and risk getting all my contest maps corrupted like the last time I entered this contest. I'm glad TGC helped me get my editor working again. I'm just going to use ambiant lighting... So, thanks for the idea, but, my lights aren't working.

It's okay Orrion, we all make sacrifices, right? I, myself, cannot get most FPSC shaders to work, so I'm going gusto on those and just forgetting about them.

Also, I like the new screenies, you do have some decent level designing skills I see. Although, if your lights are not working I would try to stay away from things such as candles or anything that should make it's own light and not be a part of the ambient light. It just looks a little off.

Thanks, I was just thinking myself to get rid of those candles, But I'm gonna keep the laptops in there because they have batteries

And those design skills are my brothers, He's the one making all the maps. I'm the one adding effects and scripting(All from here, haven't found out a way to understand FPI yet) and Object placing to add to the effect of the level design, to make it look more like a secret lab etc.

Thanks for all the comments guys, All I need to do now is to work out a plot of where the lines go and put in some of Jeku's music in to finish it up...

And right about now, it's about 85% done.

Again, thanks for all the comments guys. You guys are the nicer communities around(I've been on the others, they just cure and pretend that they're the admins there). So, this is a great community. Keep it up.

Your welcome OC, no I'm not in the contest, my FPSC went wonky and, I think I have to re-buy it. I would just re-install it but my sisters(really little ones) must've lost it. Because I had it in the hard drive last time I saw it, my sisters must've took it out to play their Dora The Explorer game or something and chucked it someplace. looked everywhere near the computer, and most places away from it.
I'm really POed about it. I miss FPSC, and my PHOENIX game is getting pushed back because of it. Not that I've started it.
But it's gonna be really cool. If I can even get FPSC back.

Anyway, as I said before, game looks awesome and good luck.

That's really bad, Troy. Have you tried the FTP approach to get it back? Go to your profile and Order History... should be a link called "Download Info" for FPS Creator. See if that works for ya.

That doesn't make sense though, because the program is on the disk.
I suppose it's worth a shot though, I'll try it this weekend.

P.S. What exactly does FTP mean???

Back on topic--

You need lights, really not to be mean but a game without light looks like crap. You know what I take that back, your game looks ok but with lights it would look much better.

Quote: "You get a Free download version that you can vidle with FPSC until the disc arrives, I still use the download version every once and a while. Back on topic please..."

Why dont you use the demo version and see if you lights work in that. Then you could see whats different about your FPSC, and whats different from the demo, and try to fix the problem from there.

I think it's v1.07. It's having problems with some of the shaders and the lights aren't showing... I agree with you about the lighting... I just don't want to risk losing my maps to corruption after all the hard work I've done. And seeing how close the end to the compition is...

Ok, I found the problem, It was 1.07. I reverted back to v1 to test. And the lights worked. I'm downloading 1.06 to see if that works, if that doesn't, I'll try 1.04 til I can get it to work. Then, I'll update the screenies with the lights in it... Or do you want a new set for comparition or something?

FTP = File Transfer Protocol

It's a server type. Similar to how some servers are HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). FTP is for uploading/downloading files, HTTP is basically to READ said files from a server.

Yeah... in a nutshell, anyway, lol.

Back to the topic:

Orrion, I suggest you be a little careful with your level, have you backed it up before doing all this version revising? It would be wise to do so.

And since you made the level in v1.07, it may be a little kwerky in earlier versions. But if you can get the lights and everything else to work by changing versions, I say go for it! Give us screenies of how it would look.

@Everyone: Orrion has tried to get lights in his game but as I haven't got MP5 to fix the lights, Orrion has to leave the lights as they are.. So no flame wars on this matter or I'll have to go rambo on your butts.lol As he did try it isn't his fault that the lights are faulty.

Don't feel bad, Orrion. My lights work fine when I test my game, but when I build it... all my dynamic lights have lightmaps applied to them, so it looks like they're always on... and that looks like crap.

So, you're not alone, I am having light problems, too.

KOTGW means Keep.Up.The.Good.Work. I won't be able to enter, I probably won't be able to start my game until after Christmas when I have money, then I can get MagicFPS and make custum stuff. I don't want to start it and have it all stock.

Well, probably time to get back on topic.
Keep it up OC.
