I decided I should report this, as it did happen to the person I was talking to online as well. He lives halfway across the world

I was browsing the forums when; BAM. CGI Error.

I recorded it in history while on MSN
Quote: "Veintitrés says:
November 11th, 2007, at 1:58 PM EST I found that TGC forums had crashed!
J***** - says:
i got the same error
Veintitrés says:
i just recorded histroy
Veintitrés says:
i am genius!
"

Any idea why this happened? As a web developer it would also be useful for me to know why there was a CGI error, even if it only lasted a few seconds.

I think it happens because the server doesn't respond in time, due to the CPU being too busy with other tasks such as running Rich's favourite game, pong. Or at least that's my theory.

Ohh, I see. That makes sense. I always knew Rich had a secret die-hard passion for pong

That happens to me all the time as well, and actually happened earlier. Could it be because of too many people on at once?

It is probably because the server is busy with other things. At certain times I expect it will be running scheduled backups, log analysis scripts, database tidying, etc. all while still delivering pages to many, many visitors.
If I remember correctly TGC moved their hosting to an external party some time ago, but I am not 100% sure.

I tried to get on to pong, but the server couldn't find it, even with 32kb of data. Evidently Rich has stopped all abilities of pinging. Can anyone here ping pong?

Hah! No wonder Richard Davy left TGC. He's planning a pong follow-up mini-game for that sheep game!
