I'm considering putting a Dell XPS on my christmas list, but unfortunately the cost of one on the Dell UK site is too much, about £200 more than what you would pay in America. Unfortunately Dell laptops seem like a "Dell's website exclusive" thing to me when it comes to purchases - as they don't do shops anymore.

So are there any other (better) sites for buying them? Cause I need to get that price down

IBuyPower.com

Significantly less expensive! Last thread about purchasing computers I built a Dell Laptop vs an IBuyPower laptop. The IBuyPower laptop was not only better than the Dell, it was 600$ cheaper and came with a t-shirt some games and a carry bag for free!

Check 'em out

Alienware work with Dell to make them. Alienware & Dell also have eBay outlets for refurb stuff you can normaly get a couple hundred knocked off. With the 8800GT dropping out the factory at £150 I'd expect to see new XPS prices drop a couple hundred anyway soon anyway Hold of until the January sales if u can.

Must everyone ignore the magic of IBuyPower.com? They're awesome! Forget Dell or Alienware!

Don't forget that you will have to pay customs and UK VAT (19%?) when you import something.

You are assuming that they will actually deliver outside of the US. Very few online places do this in the US (esp. to Europe) for some reason. There are companies online that give you a real US address and they will send ordered items onto you, but apparently you have to fax them copies of your passport, signatures, credit cards and all sorts. Not exactly what I want to do...

Cheers

Of course, laptops look like explosives, if there's no proper id on it customs have to confiscate it for "security" purposes

IBuyPower.com looks good, but I'm afraid they only appear to ship their products to across the USA and Canada. Or so it seemed when I experimented with the laptop builder

Also, unfortunately, eBay appears to be even more expensive.

Those are the two options I have tried out so far, Alienware next

Oh, and it appears I forgot about the import taxes the price range between the UK and USA laptops (for a UK person) would likely be quite a bit smaller then.

While I do not agree with using Ibuypower, I insist that you do not buy from alienware. They used to be a very good company, but Dell bought them. They are no longer nearly as good as before.

Whats wrong with IBuyPower gamebird? I've used them in the past and they were excellent.

A shame they don't ship out of the USA though
