I know this is a bit late, but for those who aren't in the "know". Yahtzee released his newest game, which is incredibly addicting:

As a side note, I'm running the game in Wine on Ubuntu and I can't seem to get the music working (I assume there's music), any ideas on getting it to work? I assume it's midi as the sound fx all work.

Nice. I like it. Another difficult game to fill my unproductive free minutes.

It resembles an other one I played some time ago. It was called "2233", or something like that. But this one looks comic.

Edit:
By the way, I can not hear sounds either. It says "could not initialize sound hardware". Maybe it uses some midi standard that I do not have installed..

Edit2:
How stupid! I managed to make it work in Windows. I just ran the "winsetup.exe" and changed the "midi music" combo box from "default" to "Win 32 MIDI wrapper". If it is possible to install that wrapper in Ubuntu, I guess it will work.

Cheers.

It's a pretty good game. The controls could have been tightened a bit, like: if I hold down the wall hugging button too long he goes in and out, very annoying. I have a hard time reading the texts, the go by a bit quickly; also some texts do not pause the game. And finally I really hate the "push buttons rapidly" scene, it's completely annoying and I had to play the level twice just to read the instructions before loosing; also I had to go through the intro sequence each time and there's more button pushing each time I fail the level. Could it be more horrible?

Other then that I had fun playing the game

I havent seen the push buttons rapidly scene yet. But I know what you mean about the text going quickly.

In game, like notes, it's kind of fun that it doesn't pause the action, you have to read it quickly just like a real burgler

I cant seem to beat the third level, the one where you go to get the camera back. It seems you need the roll skill to do it for some reason.

you need to go up into the attic to get to the note that tells you which room, I haven't gotten past that part, so I dont know if you need rolling skills after that

My weekends coming up, so I intend to finish the game tonite or tomorrow^.^

I think you do need the rolling skill, because there is a little place in the attic that looks like you could roll through.

There's an entrance to the attic on the right side of the map as well.

It would not let me go there without an upgraded lock picking skill haha. So what room is the camera in?

Ah, that explains it

I dunno, I died after I retrieved the note, and I forgot the name of the person I was going after.

That would kinda ruin the fun of a stealth puzzle game, I would think

This guy rules. I love the Trilby series. I am almost done with 5 Days a Sacrifice which is the last in the series (It seems this one has his character, but not the original story). His 3-episode adventure platformer 1213 is also extremely fun. I suggest you download and play it.

Thanks, can't wait to play his new game. I've been waiting for a good stealth game (The Thief series just doesn't do it for me).

First off, according to the story you are not out after the camera specifically but the person who might know where to find it.

The note with the room number is not in the attic and I don't think you need the roll or lock pick lvl 2 skill. These two skills are the most valuable early in the game so getting them first is very helpful.

I miss a lot of text because I have to move on and personally I think I miss some of the experience this way. It's not like I can control when and where to read the info, sometimes it's even written on top of a guard and that's very annoying.

UFO:
This game takes place a few years before 5 Days a Sacrifice. I'm gonna give his other games a try later.

I think all the criticisms brought up so far are accurate: text goes by a bit too quickly (especially in level 1), the button-mashing is alright but not especially fun. Also, I realised you can't Abort (ie. quit) the level with the button-mashing, since your objective is to escape, and it wouldn't make sense to just abort and escape that way. Having said that, it really makes it a pain when you play through later on to try and get a perfect ranking.

Having said all that, this is one of the most addictive games I've played! The story's not as good as the Trilby games or 1213, but the gameplay is surprisingly complex. It's probably the least realistic burglar simulator, but a very fun game regardless! My only quibble is, it'd be nicer to have more levels. The replay value you get from getting new rankings, unlocking costumes and playing through all 7 levels without a break is excellent, but I don't think it quite reaches the thrill of exploring a new level.

I'm not actually a Kiwi, I just randomly thought it up one day.

Here's a tip for you:

I play using a PS2 controller and an adapter and to get past the button mashing easily I configured Xpadder to use turbo. Xpadder works with any DX capable joystick. After beating the mashing once I wasn't about to do it again, it's too much work on a controller.

Download ArtMoney, and add them to the table. Select the process the game is running in, and then you can modify the 'value' of those values to cheat in the game. You can save the table as a .amt file too

Still haven't beaten it, this game is hard! I started over because I found you can't buy all the upgrades, as you don't earn enough throughout the game.

Right now I'm on that xj level where you have to steal the device. I managed to get to the end of the level, but then you have to backtrack to the beginning >.<
