Just curious, who here has switched from DBP to DarkGDK due to DGDK becoming free for freeware apps?

Cheers,

Well technically it's not switching if you never really even use DBP in the first place. Rather just "testing" DGDK to see if it's worth my time.

I wasn't informed you could only use one or the other .

Meh, i use both now. DBPro 'cuz it is awesome like that, and GDK for OOP, my precious OOP!

.NET, YEAH! I have to talk with Paul, to be sure what are the changes to DGDK.NET, I hope it does not break LightEngine.

I think the December release will be delayed to January (or February).

You don't have to. I just meant for current projects and perhaps future projects.

OOP Squad!
^^ Like "Geek Squad"'s theme sound thingy.

That doesn't count.

At least we know it'll work with Windows Vienna. I personally don't like all the dependencies and stuff of .NET. One day, all there will be on Windows is .NET and I'll be one of the few living programmers who knows of something called "x86 ASM".

I switched to DarkGDK for C++ about 6 months ago and haven't looked back! I'm a professional C# programmer, but love the simplicity and speed of GDK for C++.

Not switching, but have it installed and learning to use it. Can't hurt.

Hey... dont take my christmas present from me

HeavyAmp: Im also making one (but in .NET) but one advise is.... break things up in parts and try to make each part alone. Then its easy to join them together.. and make your game on paper first..

I was just joking around about the MMO thing although I do want to make a RPG soon which probably needs the same advice anyway. Do you Design all your levels on paper or do you just use it for jotting game/character ideas down, Ive always been interested in the depth people go to in designing their games.

I switched to DarkGDK before it was free, and I will be switching to GDK.NET using C# when that comes out.

same here. dropped DBP when I was sole beta tester for dgdk.net but I am in vb.net instead of c#, having come from a vb background. I pretty much do everything else in pure vb.net and only use the dgk to get at the actual 3d commands. very powerful, light years ahead of dbp.

As a plus, you all don't need to wait for libraries for physics or whatever! you can make them yourselves! haha. I gotta research multi-threaded physics for the library I'm making though, I need it to work on single core, dual core, and quad core, while utilizing more advanced techniques when more cores are available. Luckily, there are alot of papers written on this stuff, so I lucked out

Im switching, but Im still gonna use DBP for all my quick work, then port it over to this. I didnt switch before because of Dark Physics, but not its gonna be on this also, so its not an excuse anymore.

Giving it serious consideration, I just downloaded it.
Looking into how it interacts with my other C++ functions.

I.M.P.O. C++ is slightly better than C# or .Net as it gives you more control of your application, although development time is usualy much longer in C++ than the others.

I just got the Ageia PhysX card the other day, and I'm looking into using that on some of my projects, mainly for fluid dynamics, so the DGDK is taking second place at the moment...

Go Create...

Cyberspace was becoming overcrowded and slummy so I decided to move. These nice chaps gave me a lift.

I am a professional C# (ex-C++) developer and I started using GDK (.Net) a few months ago! because I knew the syntax of the C# language I knocked up a simple space invaders clone in a few hours!! Was excellent as it has all the DBPro functionality hiding the direct x stuff and yet you can still use standard C# for everything else!!

Definitely a good move!!

Then maybe one day the DGDK part of the forum will be bigger than DBP part
