Any stories about any shopping escapades today? In the US the day after Thanksgiving most stores have huge 1 day only sales. These draw ridiculous amounts of people. Well, me and my dad saw that there were some really good GPS navigators in the Staples (an office store) flier. We figured, what the heck, might as well see if we can grab a couple for our cars.

The store opened at 6AM we got there like 5:45 in hopes of getting in ASAP. Well apparently we should have gotten there like maybe more like 3:45AM there was already a line of at least 200 people wrapping around the store. This isn't a very big store mind you. It's capacity was almost maxed out with that many people. So we were pretty much just ready to leave when we saw the line, but decided, hey why not, we're already here, lets do it.

So after waiting for the end of the line to unwrap itself from around the building we filed in. And it was just insane inside, people running 'round everywhere. We ended up finding out that in order to get any expensive items featured in the advertisements you had to get a ticket from a customer service desk, then you pay for the ticket and go pick up your item elsewhere (kinda screwy but it works I suppose).

We got to the service desk where we could get the item ticket and while I was waiting I slid a store flier on the table over a few inches just so I could get the item's name. Apparently it was the dude's next to me (how should I have known, it was just lying there like they were using it for reference to the items people wanted). He gave me a dirty look and said. Hey, that's my flier and yanked it back real fast . I'm thinkin'.... sooooorrry dude. It's not like I was going to steal it or anything. People are ridiculous at these sales.

Anyhow, the GPS we went there for was sold out, and we asked for the next best one. There were some left. Just as we were about to tell her to give us 2 tickets some guy pops up and asks for one. There were a total of 3 tickets left o_0 So we got really really lucky we managed to even get them. If that guy had come and ninja'd the last ticket or something I'd have been pretty upset, he just pretty much cut in line and all. The lady gave it to him before finishing serving us. Stupid people.

So we then had to wait in the checkout line for probably around 40 minutes. It was huge. It all worked out though and we got what we wanted, but that's the first and probably the last time I ever experienced the shopping madness of the day after Thanksgiving.

Anyone have any interesting stories or cool purchases today?

There is no thanksgiving day in Poland, so we don't have after-thanksgiving sales, but ~3 years ago in one of Media-Markt's (electronic stores) there was a sale. first people waited in front of the shopping centre from 5:00, and one of the kids almost got killed while trying to buy a Discman for less than $1 (after currency translation from PLN to USD)...

I'm going to put this here because you will ask for it anyway. http://web.umr.edu/~klpwdf/codez.html

Well, I managed to get a sweet deal still, just not quite as sweet. We thought we'd give it a try for fun. Turned out to be worth it. Saved $150 and also got 2 free $20 Staples gift cards.

Edit: So between my dad and I we saved $340 including the gift cards seems worth it to me.

You "saved" $340.0, but you bought a couple GPSes you didn't need? In that case I wouldn't call it saving...

How can you never need a GPS? I haven't ever tried the Black Friday shopping experience. I guess some people enjoy it, but it seems too mad and early in the morning for me.

I drove passed best buy and circuit city last night around midnight, and there were probably already at least 20-30 ppl sitting outside. The stores didn't open up until 5am. CompUSA actually opened up at midnight. I had to work in the morning and wasn't waiting in the below freezing weather. I stopped at best buy during my lunch break today, I didn't see any great sales. Most items still cost more than what I find online.

its a time to remember when the english settlers lead by Columbus came to America and wiped out all the indians because they didn't look like what he expected people from India would like look and so he mistook them for imposters.

No, no, you've got it all wrong. It's a time to remember when pilgrims ate with the Native Americans BEFORE they wiped out the entire continent of them . Hey, I'm not complaining, since the holiday revolves around food .

Ok, so I don't need it, but it certainly will come in handy when I never have to look at a map again.

Yeah, I can see why you bought it. Not saying shouldn't have.

It's actually a time to thank God for all he has given us, and continues to give us; a thing many people forget to do. It did originate back in the pioneer days, but that's just its history, not its focus.

Thus the name THANKS(for)giving.
