Well I've been needing a new computer, Office Depot had an awesome deal on black friday (yesterday), so I bought one. Here are the specs:

---o AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (2.5 GHz, dual core)
---o 3 GB DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)
---o 320 GB HD (7200 RPM)
---o Integrated NVIDIA 6150SE
---o Vista Home Premium
---o 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

All for $950 - $100 instant savings - $250 mail-in rebates. So only $600. It's an HP, by the way. And I'm definately going to upgrade my graphics card to at least an 8800GT (512 MB). Vista, meh. Wasn't my first choice, but I've got to upgrade sometime.

The monitor is a lot better than I expected from HP. Certainly better than my CRT, anyway. I've attached a pic. Tell me what you think.

Beside the fact that I think 600 would be fair for a normal price (non-sale price), not bad

not too shaby, congrats

whats the deal with the nv6150se, is that like a real video card? agp? pci-e? specs?

does the mobo have a pci-e slot if you wanted to turn off the integrated video and go with a current stand-alone gpu?

Thanks all.

@CattleRustler: The 6150 is NVIDIA's version of the Intel Media Accelerator (also integrated graphics). It's got something like 128 MB dedicated, 640 shared. The proprietary motherboard has 1 free PCI-e x16 slot, with which I plan to slot in an 8800 GT or above.

@Cool Kid: Aero already does look great.

It's an on-board gpu.
They're not actually as bad as you think; as the one I have runs Vista with Aero and full services without much noticeable slow-down until I access the hard disk.

It also runs most current generation games decently.
Timeshift and Crysis weren't playable no matter how low I put them, nor was Doom 3; but the rest of the games I have like Jericho, Unreal Tournament 3, Tomb Raider Legends

all ran at a reasonable enough speed to play.
I'd recommend upgrading the gpu but really should do for a while though.

£300 is about what I paid for mine, minus monitor mind; and I got a cube case and BluRay-rom (DVD/RW) drive. Which is about the same so yeah that is quite a good price. Would've loved to have a 19" Widescreen monitor heh

Anyone see the deals on 360s at game right now?
£550 gets you a premium with Samsung 21" Widescreen HD television plus gears of War... not to bad really

nice I just got an 8800GTS 320MB 320bit gpu....

(advanced warning: nv auto fan stuff is crap, and may not properly cool the card. Visit guru3d.com to see all the 8800 owners having problems and needing to resort to riva tuner, lol)

I was building a similar system for my brother and his wife for christmas.

Athlon 64 X2 4600 (2.4GHz)
2GB DDR2 800
DVD burner w/ lightscribe
MSI motherboard w/ 6100 gfx, audio, lan

Total price was $270, that doesn't include a harddrive but it did include a case and psu with it all. So most of what you've just paid for I'd say is for that spiffy looking monitor.

@CattleRustler: Got it.
@UFO: lol!
@Phaelax: Throw in another $20 for the processor, $30 for another gig of RAM, $110 for Vista OEM, $10 for the card reader, $80 for the HD, and the grand total is... $520. Not including the LCD which retails for approx $350.

Alright, I priced it. If I were to build that computer off of newegg, it would cost me $770 including shipping (and a neat windowed glowy case), no rebates. So if you get your rebates I say good find

@Jerico2day: Thanks again. And don't forget it also comes with MS Works and a whopping 3 year warranty.

Anyone know where I can find an NVIDIA 8800 GT in stock? Everywhere I look is fresh out of them.

Well, OpenOffice can take on MS Works anyday, and individual parts get their own warranties. And I hate to say it but the parts that I picked out were probably better quality.

But still, there's a lot to be said to spend a hundred more bucks and having a complete system.

I personally would have had more fun putting one of those together

Anyways, you can get an 8800gt at newegg.com, you prolly won't find a better price anywhere else.

I've looked on ebay for graphic cards, but they are generally at retail store prices, not online store prices (like newegg or zip zoom fly). You can save about 50 to a hundred bucks on a card online.
