I think I will be the only one who has responded, but:

Blender - Free
Anim8or - Free
Milkshape 3d - Cheap
Fragmotion - Cheap
...
Well, I guess we don't have to discuss 3DS Max and Maya 3D

I use Zbrush 3.1 for High poly and it's about $500

I also use Blender 2.5 which is Open Source aka Free.

Good thing you started a new thread don't want you to bumping old threads you might get yelled at.

Well Here goes,

I am currently using anim8or for my primary modeling and have recently purchased 3DS Max 2008. I will continue to use anim8or until I feel comfortable with Modeling in Max. for UV mapping I use UV Mapper, For poly reduction Needs I use Action 3D Reducer and for texturing I use a combination of The Gimp, Photoshop, Texture Maker, and Finally Genetica.

If you want to produce quality models and textures you really do need to spend at least a little cash and a little time learning the ins and outs.

I hope this helps.
