I have just ordered a new PC (not arrived yet). It runs Vista on twin Geforce 8800 GTX`s. So, obviously I will want to use the capabilities of DX10. However, in order to use DBP and run of the projects I have created, I will need to install DX9.

Will installing DX9 on a Vista machine still leave DX10 intact?

Thanks

Apparently so. At least that is what I was told when I installed DX9 for DBP and various games.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Yes, DirectX10 and DirectX9 use entirely different draw systems.
You do have 10 and 9Ex installed by default; Games for Windows are compatible with those runtimes.

DarkBASIC Professional unfortunately is only compatible with 9.0c
So you will need the runtime for it.

If you play to run games using older apis (5-8) then I'd recommend installing them first and upgrading them, as you will experience better backward compatibility.

e.g. Dark Forces II Jedi Knight using the DirectX9.0c runtime just renders a black screen, uninstalling DirectX9.0c installing DirectX6 (from disc) then upgrading to 9.0c again and the game will run exactly as you'd expect it to.

It works perfectly fine on my Vista installation, and all I needed to do was download two of the DLLs from the latest DX9c and put it in the System32 folder. After that, everything worked. ^^

Can't remember which DLLs, but if you try running your game it'll probably say something like "Couldn't locate 'omglolwtf.dll' in System32."
