Just thought I would post this as its an interesting game engine I hadn't heard about before. Its called Frostbite, its from the Swedish company DICE and it allows huge totally destructive environments. It runs on the PS3 and Xbox360. Watch this quite amusing promo video for more info:

I'm looking forward to Bad Company, the whole idea of blowing a building to bits to get rid of a camper sounds great, it should put a whole new spin on the tired old battlefield gameplay.

Not sure what the correlation between frostbite and white engine is, does the white engine concentrate on destructible environments?
Never been a fan of FF so I'm not aware of what it does or why - for some reason I'm assuming it's FF with better graphics.

Looks great.
I noticed the physics on the broken objects still aren't as top notch as CryEngine 2.

CryEngine is slow. Probably because it's crying so much.

Bad Company looks interesting, but I dunno... The destroyable scenery doesn't seem like it's all it's cracked up to be... When I see buildings completely collapse into piles of rubble and wood semi-realisticly, then I will believe.

I would like to see a level with that engine in effect. Especially if you need to go somewhere but you blow up the only way in, or you start with some nice place and when you leave there is nothing. Lol it could be fun, but it could also be frustrating.

This isn't the first game to have totally destructive environments, so they shouldn't be claiming it is. Red Faction (to my knowledge) did it first, and did it pretty well for the time if you ask me. It better be at least as good as Red Faction's Geo-Mod system.

Red Faction was great. I remember the beginning where you could get in the drill machine and make your own tunnel instead of going down the "regular" one.

Rad Faction only had geo-moddable walls and such, individual buildings couldn't be broken bit-by-bit until it fell down.

However other than this nice feature it looks the same as the Refractor 3 engine(with higher polycounts), so I haven't exactly got my hopes up that it will be much different from Battlefield2.

Nah, you could flag anything as destroyable. The thing was there was no physics or anything for the program to decide when the object would collapse until it was absolutely blown apart from it's base. So you could have the tiniest little piece of cement holding up a skyscraper until you blew it up... Maybe the single player levels didn't have alot of the geomod stuff on every single thing, but some levels my cousin made were awesome hehehe. I never owned the game, so I may forget some stuff, but oh well...

Some of the glass could not be destroyed, even with a rocket in RF though. It was funny seeing glass floating in the middle of nothing because you had destroyed everything around it.

Multiplayer Red Faction owned on the LAN. Had so much fun in that game, especially the sniper level with 2 massive buildings (each with hundreds of windows) facing eachother (of course, destructible terrain didn't really play a part in that level, though).

Yeah it did haha! i always took the rocket launcher and dug a tunnel down to the lower level to get that cool machine gun. This was because the player would always spawn up top and if you tried to jump down you would almost die and the bots would own you at 30% health. I got around that by digging a tunnel and jumping down, only to be able to climb back up haha.

The guy with the pile of papers looks as if the chair has some sort of inbuilt buttplug.

Fun video--- but wow, their desks are crammed *really close* together. I love my desk at work where I can stretch out

That's because staff at EA are over paid and the company can afford large desk spaces for their lowly staff.

Okay I'm sorry for being mean to you Jeku.

This Engine looks pretty good and well, who said game designers can't be fun and cool like these guys?

I love Nancy DrewG, but not insert brain here
