Hello, i bought 2x1 gb of 667mhz ram the other day, i installed them into my computer. And the computer started to freeze at bootup. I didnt know what to do so i tried taking one of the ram out, then it booted up just fine, but i'd really like to use them both, but it wont work. I've heard people that have the same problem make some voltage higher, or something, i'd appreciate any help i can get oh, i have a MSI P6N SLI V2 motherboard.

Whats the voltage requirements on the RAM? The mobo says it supports up to 8GB worth of RAM.

Hmm, also it could be faulty. Does the mobo beep or anything when you turn it on? A loud continuous beep means its not sitted well.

What brand of ram is it? I'll look it up for you if you post it and see about finding the voltages.

RAM can be very very temperamental with certain setups and things like that. I'd say your ram is probably not faulty, but it may not be compatible with your mobo or something. I had an ASUS board which many types of RAM even though they were within the proper specs didn't actually work perfectly with the mobo.

I'm always very wary of my RAM purchases as RAM is quite often the root of many problems.

EDIT: You may alos try swapping the slots the RAM simms are plugged into.

Are all the RAM slots the same colour?

i have 3 of the very same type already inside my comp so i dont think that's the problem.

i'll write any information here about the ram i can find.

Corsair
ValueSelect
VS1GB667D2

Might be the problem. I once tried to install four 512mb DDR2 RAM sticks into a PC which apparently had four slots, but two were a different colour and putting the sticks in the purple(?) slots would cause a bluescreen.

you want to make sure that two of the same sticks are in two of the same color slots. For example, you've got 2 old sticks and 2 new sticks. Put the 2 old sticks in the red slots and the 2 new sticks in the yellow ones... (or whatever color your board happens to be)

Also, try changing the order that the ram is in.

That might fix your issue.

Check the documentation on your motherboard and see if they have a listing of compatible RAM. Possibly your motherboard only supports 3 of that type of SIMM ? That's how it was on my ASUS... Only 2 sticks of a certain type of RAM I bought were supported (found that out after I bought the board and RAM of course) but I managed to get 3 to work. Lol.

EDIT: Ah, Corsair ValuSelect. I had to RMA one of those when I was using them. The price on 'em is nice, but it seems that you can get alot of DOAs or errors that pop up later on down the road. I probably won't use ValuSelect ever again if I can help it. When they work, they work well, you just have to hope you didn't get a faulty one, which may be the case here.

i checked, it is supported. I'll check on those things you said, but even if the 1 ram stick wont work i'm still pretty happy with the increase in performance with the 1 added ram so i'm not tottally bummed because of this

Thanks for all your help guys
