Pre-rendered showcase of the physics engine in Crysis; even the original at 8fps isn't that bad considering the amount of boxes!

I like the part where he walks up and takes one box out of the guy's foot, and the whole thing collapses.

It's a cool demo and all, but it's nothing I havent seen before. After all, it's only box physics, you could do that with ODE (prolly only get 1 FPS though).

Yea, I could make it in Blender game engine. I actually did something like that once, when I learned how to use it. I was making this domino path thing and got bored, so I stacked up a whole bunch of dominoes in a box shape and dropped a sphere on it. Took forever to render, but it looked cool.

The part 02:37-03:25 could perfectly be a music video. Fitted onto the music perfectly.

Nice showcase.

What does that even mean? How is it not in game frame rates? That doesn't even make sense.

Osiris: Ever heard of something called prerendered?

No... he means they rendered the entire scene before hand, then went in and played the scene back to you faster.

Yeah, so he config'd Crysis to output a frame as an image each time it completed a frame rendering. Rather than 'skipping'/dropping frames to keep performance in check (as what would normally happen) the configuration told Crysis to wait until each frame/timestep was totally done, then continue (hence why he got 8 seconds per frame not 8fps)

HL2 Episode 2 had precomputed mass physics running in-game, they just weren't interactive

It means that he used a console command capture_frames=1 meaning that at every frame the Sandbox editor took a screen shot. He can then piece the hundreds of pictures toegether using VideoHub and convert them into usable .avi. he could therefore make it look really good with full settings and stupidly large amounts of boxes because the pictures when formed toegether in a video, the video has a frame rate that can be set by the user. The frame rate in the game when he took the screen shots would be probably about 1 frame per second.

Or, as he said himself, it took 8 seconds per frame :p
