The winning category was SciFi this time; so I decided to make a portable power source. Although I think the texture could be better, I wanted to get this shipped. I just sent the files to Matt, so it should be ready in the next day or so.

2 renders and a screenshot.

or one man if you put some trolley wheels on the bottom tehe.

turned out nice, simple and effective, a great entity

your getting some weird vertex lighting by the I/O cylinders, you can prevent this kind of effect and save vertices in the future by creating a separate cylinder in its place and leaving it as one polygon.

Yep; I should have used the glue tool, instead of boolean join with the cylinders Jon. Pointers for next time.

Hey Jon; do you know of any good tutorials (non-program specific) for learning the basics of normal mapping and spec mapping?

Now that I have a real job (starting in January), I plan on getting both Max and Photoshop in a year or two. But, for now, I'll be sticking with the tools I have.

You do know it's December now?
Speaking of MOTM are you planning on making any more dishes to go with cup and bowl?
Maybe you should rename it to MOTBM (Model Of The Bi Monthly).

...well,somebody has to give you a hard time.

BTW the model looks great.Yet another winner...

Please have mercy and use the search function.

Somehow, we got to naming each month after the month of creation (and when the poll ends).

Funny you should mention Bi-monthly, as I was just discussing with Matt that I wanted to move the Model of the Month into an "ever-other-month" cycle. With the new job I'm going to have less and less time to contribute free stuff.

As far as the wooden plate goes....probably not going to happen, since the cup and bowl have been packed up with a pair of other models. More on that later......

I've never been able to find a good enough example/tutorial for specular mapping (mostly specular colour is hard to come by) so I'll have to look out for something on that.

as for normal mapping, im not really sure of any tutorials that aren't really program specific, but maybe this will help slightly:

http://www.bencloward.com/tutorials_normal_maps9.shtml

(goes a bit into detail and the text is small )

I'll look for some more and post some links if i do, but i haven't come across many in the past perhaps i'll write something some time about them.

congratulations on your new job, best of luck with it
