Hi All, I want to make a fairly large number of human faces for use in a space sim. The idea is when a character talks via a coms link, a little pic pops up to show who is talking (a 2D non-animated pic that is). I have searched the net for the last half hour trying to find any suitable software that allows easy and face generation but found nothing that was of good enough quality. Just looking to create 2D bmp pics that can be pasted onto plains, (NOT 3D models). Does anyone know of any (reasonable quality) software out there that does this?

Cheers

I made something like this for a basketball manager game that kinda died on me
All I did was draw a head, then drew different features and saved them on a black background. Then in the program I pasted the different features and grabbed the resulting image. They looked a bit like King of the Hill characters lol.
Or are you after photo-realistic quality?

hmm... I'm working on something that blends colours and I think I might be able to make something that blends them in a way that would create light and shadows.
I have a vision of having a basic skeleton of a face with nose bridge and eyes etc and then having an algorithm that blends the colours between them. Sounds very complicated and probably is but it would be awesome if it worked

@Hangar

A long time ago I was using Blender and there was an alpha stage script called MakeHuman which generated humanoid forms with parameters you can change. I uploaded a picture of some of the facial features you can adjust to give you an example.. Even though it is 3d, you can capture a screenshot of the faces you want and edit them with a paint program to save them as separate images.

Anyway, I looked up MakeHuman and it has evolved from the version I used to make the included pic. It is probably much more robust and no longer requires Blender from what I can tell.

Enjoy your day.

Yes Make human is a good software that you can use with Blender 2.45 to make realistic human models, I use it often, for my video games !

@ Latch and Bat out of Hell:

Thank you both. I will check these out tonight probably Makehuman first as it appears to be free and looks to produce reasonable quality photo-images. Poser is about 250 US bucks but looks capable of producing really excellent images. Hmm choices, choices....

Thanks!

the Poser demo certainly looks impressive but I want to give blender's makehuman a bash. Unfortunately I cannot download the software (1.8 alpha seems to be the latest). When I click on the download link it seems to think about downloading for 2 secs and then says done (??). Does anyone know if there is an issue with the site? Despite registering, I cannot post on the forums! What a pain.

Have u ever tried Singular Inversions "facegen" software? its specially designed for these tasks, u can quickly make random realistic faces and its user-friendly, u could make a good face in seconds! try the demo version and if u are agreed with the software, u should try to buy it, its expensive but it worths every cent u paid for it.
