I'm trying to tread carefully here... I know it isn't cool to promote other forums on TGC in a unique thread unless there's something important or insightful on them, and promoting forums in general is fairly despised. So please forgive me if this ticks anyone off, and if it ends up getting locked I wouldn't have the right to argue. Hopefully it's cool enough though that people won't consider this a waste of space.

So anyway, the thread...

We've been trying to figure out how to get the forums on our website lit up with a few fresh faces, and I decided (on a whim) to make a thread offering free copies of Eternal Equinox to the first ten people who post substantially in that thread. Seeing as how about 75% of the people who've heard of Eternal Equinox did so by reading stuff on these forums, I thought the only logical place to tell others about this promo would be here. So anyway, if you want a free copy of Eternal Equinox, read that thread. I'm not asking anyone to register or even click this link... just informing you that such an offer exists should you be interested. The thread can be found here. Note that to get a free copy of the game, you need to write something (anything really) to that thread, so don't bother clicking if you don't want to do that. "Insert Name Here" already did this, so he's getting a free copy of the game as soon as he emails me... that leaves nine free copies up for grabs, if anyone is interested.

The game's only sold five copies to date, so this is really more of an Eternal Equinox promo than anything else. The way I see it, if we give away free copies of the game the recipients might tell a few friends and that might boost sales to some degree. I'm not sure if it will work, but since nothing else seems to be working I figure it's worth a try, lol. I'll probably be running a few more promotions like this in the next few months as well, so if you don't get a free copy this time, you might next time .

I was extremely hesitant to post this, but I figured enough people in the community would be interested to know about it to warrant a thread. I'm probably going to do something like this when we release Real Estate Magnate early next year, but with a thread here on TGC. Maybe some sort of competition tied into it... depends on if I can come up with a fun compo though. Anyway, thought I'd let you all know that I'm giving free copies of EE out .

I tried to keep it tasteful and honest. I didn't want to say "my forum pwns come register," and after thinking about the promo for a bit, I started to realize someone might find it and make a thread like that here, inadvertently advertising MISoft in a way we couldn't control, lol. Not suggesting though that you would do something like that INH, just saying someone down the road might join and come here saying "ooh look, MISoft is giving away games!"

Cool cool, enjoy the free game I'll reply to your post over on MINet shortly.

I'm thinking we won't have any more free copies by the time it gets dark here in the US, lol. It's only 8:40am here though (sleeping is a chore for me lately) so only time will tell

They be even cozier soon, Agent Dink is in the process of creating a unified look across the entire website. We're going to ditch Targa (keeping SMF of course) and replace it with a standardized MINet background, so it doesn't feel like you're on a completely new site every time you visit the forums . I can't wait to launch MINet 2.0 and announce the transformation here on TGC, it's soooo pretty already and it's not even done yet. Once it's finished we're going to have a website that everyone else is going to wish *they* had, hehehe. Sorry Dink, you're not cocky enough so I'm being cocky for you, lol.

Can your game be read by a screen reader? If so I may know a few people interested.

This was extremely effective... five copies already dished out. If we give out all 10 free promotional copies by noon (EST), I might just boost this to 15 or 20 free promo copies. Glad to see people taking advantage of the offer

What do you mean by screen reader? Like the windows voice thing that reads text? I'm not entirely sure, I haven't tried it. I'll test that later this afternoon and see if it works. If it doesn't, I can look into making it compatible somehow, although if it doesn't work it might be something with DirectX 9 or even DBP.

I'll have to look for it, thanks Chris . Would be good to get that implemented into EE2 now while we're designing the engine rather than tacking it on later. Cloggy's DLL is doing wonders for EE2, and REM as well, definitely worth looking into if anyone is doing a game with text.

Cheers ol' chap, liking the game, not played a text adventure in a looooong time.

Also, you scored points with the 'drink rum till dawn' bit, simply because there's a bottle of the stuff standing by my laptop and I might tempted to just do that, who cares if I have a lecture in the morning.

Umm, yeah, that screen reader idea is great actually. Would be awesome for blind folks! They need video games too. It may boost sales if you add it to EE, and we'd be helping out handicapped folks as well Matt, I suggest you look into that ASAP. That may be a way to dish out a few copies of our game to charitable organizations as you mentioned to me on Yahoo.

lol Sep, here's a hint: In the Tavern in the Port of Hymns, you can be a bartender if you get REALLY drunk. I recommend the house special... drink that a few times and you'll get the opportunity to work in a new job

lol it was a proper game hint, not really meant to be a message about sobering up . You can be the first person who officially plays through Eternal Equinox drunk as a skunk lol.

I wouldn't say that, I've only got £30 in the bank, though I do have a bottle of rum and two bottles of girly schnapps...but no, I don't want to steal Dazzag's reputation of drinking by the computer.

With the port of Hymns tavern bit, I am a little disappointed you don't get to walk around drunk for a bit, offend a few women, get into bar fights - wake up in the gutter with a splitting head ache.

heheh I was going to write something in like that, but didn't want to offend any kiddies that might be playing the game .

So everyone knows, due to the popularity of this promotional offer we're extending the deal! Now, anyone who posts to that thread and emails me by 6:00 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time) gets a free copy. Come on people, we're sooo close to beating our old record of 8 active members at once, lol. Now that it's a possibility (we came close, seven this morning), I seriously want to see that happen .

We're already planning a posting competition for REM hehe, five free copies to certain top posters. Not sure how it's going to work yet but there'll be something on our website about it when it happens

Sorry Matt but I really don't want to join another forum at the moment so looks like I won't be getting a free copy of EE! But the game sounds to good to miss.

So you can increase your sale count by 1.

ty I saw that we got an eCheck from you... did you get your registration code okay, or is it making you wait until the check clears? You're our first eCheck customer, hehe.

This competition was wildly successful, by my standards anway. Eight new members signed up for the forums, and more importantly, the contest already resulted in two sales! We're definitely going to do another competition like this in the future. On the Team Member's boards on MINet (closed off to the public, in case you're wondering why you can't find it) we've been talking about doing this promo again in a few weeks, and we might do it here on TGC as well. And when we release Real Estate Magnate early next year, we're going to have a contest giveaway, although we're still discussing what sort of contest to hold. So... what sort of contest would you all enjoy taking part in, knowing that the prize is free copies of REM?

Hmm, none of my friends are geeky enough to be into text adventures, and honestly I'm not much into them myself. But from what I've heard there's a lot of depth to it, so I'll try the demo next week once finals are done, and if I like it I'll buy it. The only issue with buying indi games right now is I'm in college, and am budgeting myself. But really, I'd much rather buy the game if I'm going to have it, seeing how much work was put into it. So wait a week or two, and you could very likely receive another echeck...

I seriously hope you're kidding Meg. I can't think of anything lower or more pathetic than someone pirating an indie game, lol. Well, except for the person who actually bought it and re-released it for free .

lol I hope so too. It could take a few days I'd imagine, not sure though as this is the first eCheck I've ever dealt with. Everyone else has paid by credit card so far.

Yeah it will take a few days to clear. It says on my Paypal account that it will clear on the 12th, but it always takes a day longer! So expect it before the end of the week!

I know you wouldn't do something like that, but I *had* to check anyway, it's a terrifying concept of having software you've created pirated. I figured you were joking, but I didn't know if you were serious about EE being on a website for free somewhere... made me nervous, lol.

No worries, I'm sure it'll clear . No offense to you or anyone else who uses eChecks, but I'd rather not accept them anymore, not everyone is as trustworthy and I have no idea if Paypal would charge me for a bounced check (as banks in the USA sometimes do to businesses)... I need to find out if I can turn that off or something, or if there's some feature for preventing check bouncing. Anyone know anything about that? Or maybe some sort of feature where I need to verify an eCheck before it's accepted perhaps?

I think if there was, it would probably be a lot more well-known; it would be quite popular. Sort of... "you have the choice of either sending someone something that you've spent ages making only to recieve no money and pay an additional fee, OR doing the same but recieving the money instead"

It would seem a bit of a no-brainer to me... doubt it's available 'cos the money's got to come from somewhere, and if it's not from the balance of the customer then PayPal would have to have some very benevolent owners...

I'll have to seriously look into it tomorrow and see what the deal is. We need an alternative to Paypal also... the Google thing kind of sucks from what I've been told lately, and I've also been made to understand that it costs money to have an account through them... making it extra-weak (although I've only barely looked into it so the person could be wrong). I wish someone would go and make a Paypal alternative that was fully safe (Paypal isn't, I know from experience as some of you might recall), had more options (like being able to disallow certain forms of payment, or being able to pre-approve spending, which would have prevented my security problem in the past), and had a customer service team that was bearable to speak with (I really do hate Paypal across the board lol). Wishful thinking but let a guy dream

Jeku is from Canada as well. I'll definitely check this out, thanks guys! After that Paypal fiasco I had a while back, I'd love to ditch my Paypal account, and if Underware, Automaton, and Starwraith are using it, it must be good

I need to point out that this promo did end a few days ago, before anyone else comes to the forum looking for a free copy. We'll probably do another promo like this on Christmas (haven't decided yet though). We might do it when MINet 2.0 (MISoft Studios' website, which Agent Dink is revamping from the ground up) is launched in a few weeks as well/ instead. Not sure when or how we'll do it, but we'll definitely be doing another giveaway in the near future . And I'm 50/50 about doing it with a thread on TGC (so, people who post to that thread in a set period of time get a free copy, rather than asking people to register on MINet). It seems like people enjoyed this promo though, and seeing as how it resulted in sales, I'd call it a success lol. Although I can't tell if these sales happened because of the promo offer, or because some people had only just heard of EE because of the promo. Either way, it was cool to do .
