I recently had to post my website I was working on sooner than I wanted(for reasons too long and boring to go into here), and thusly its not as Good as I ahd intended it to be. I will slowly be improving it over time, but how is it now? I know its kinda crappy, but just how crappy is it and how can I imporve it?

Here's the site:

Awful you dhould give up with it, and your whole life.
[/sarcasm]

It isn't too bad, I like the link bar at the top, but the plain times new roman writing on grey is a little odd, and you shouldn't have to scroll down the first page to see the copyright notice.

Lesson 1 in web development: Unless you know how and when, don't do Serif fonts. Besides that, you lack a terrible amount of contrast and honestly, I'd hire someone or learn more, if I were you.

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better, I was kinda worried everyone would hate it cause I had to rush it and it wasn't as good as it should have been. But thats good that you like it. And like I said, I'll be improving it over time.

INH, Depends on how you look at it. In some angles yes, I was advertising. But in other angles I was offering to help a fellow forum member by offering my services.

@ Duplex:
No thanks, I rather do it myslef. thank you for offering, but if I don't do my own website, I've got no business being in multimedia design. Much less offer to do it for customers to three swords.
@windowskiller:
in regard to lessons 2 and 3:
true, as I've said I'm planning on improving the site greatly over time, and I realize that youare right about those things. thanks. As for lesson 4: My web design instructor said that EVERYTHING must go in tables, or else certain web browsers will reposition everything. the tableslockthe content inplace and keep it from flying off to the side, going off screen, ect...

You guys are being too harsh...Omega, you are an indie game developer. Your website had an indie charm to it.Don't try to be something you're not, and make a professional fortune 500 company website. If YOU are happy with it, and it gives all the information that YOU want it to, thats what matters... F*CK every1's "Lessons"

Okay, lets try to keep things nice and friendly.
@Windoskiller, I'll ask my instructor about that, maybe I misheard him. Just in case I forgot to mention, this was made in dreamweaver. So maybe you were using a different program? And if he IS wrong, how would you do it? just let it sit there on the page?

Really Bad.

Just kidding, it's not that bad. Too much use of gradients though.

I was just waiting for someone like INH to say that

Productivity on Hassassin has increased tenfold.

For three days thats awful, it has no colour, no life and the buttons are horrible. Think of usability, you should have seperate locations for your Artwork and Games.
Think about who will be viewing your site, what its actually purpose is, whether just to showcase your work, or attract employment/business, then design from there, do some research and find some inspiration for a style, don't just open up your program and attempt to do something good.

its no worse than my first website (the navigation is too big) lol. although my curant vertion is mutch better than the first. it is using no tables for layout styaling 100% css. the only bad thing remaning is the image maps used in the hedder, but thay will be going in a few days too. (there is a problem with the float used on the image in the about me section on IE6)

feal free to download the html files for my website, i have tryed to make them as simple to understand and as easy to edit as possible. though do not reproduce my images anywere without my pomition

about tables, they lock the data /images in place, fine exept for small monitors where there would be allot of scrolling. or if it is disigned for small monitors it will look tiny on a large monitor. css is supported in all major browsers, and can acheve the same thing with much less code

@Oolite:
I didn't mean three days of actual work time. It was three days since I started to when I posted it. It was probably closer to an four hours of actual working. I worked on it little bit by little bit.
@Hessies:
Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at your HTML files and see if that gives me any ideas.

yeah. not much to say except that it is a little bland, and you might want to give Koolmoves a try, that's what I used for my website, and did mine in 2 days. Everything is custom with no templates.

Which is another thing I need to congratulate you on. You didn't use some template and just change the values to your name or whatever, you actually tried designing one yourself, and that is the beginning to web design.

Okay so if he's happy with it that's cool, but He's not trying to please himself his he? I mean if he wants to attract a crowd! Also swearing will get you a noob slap so be careful!

Does anyone know of a place that will give me a brief overview on web design? I'm currently re-building my website (look at it now! Yuck) and I don't want to break any design rules that might make my site avoidable! Lol I was using tables to line things up and then my web design bro told me to use CSS. So I went to W3Schools and I'm taking their tutorial!
