Some Screen's with Texture Quality on medium... They look good. The reflection in the water is great. Bloom is great to... I remember that old game sanatorium had some cut scenes with a high bloom setting. Will work good when used correctly. Love it!

Great video! Well done, someone has shown us what X10 can do already! The community always do better than the game editor makers!

Hi, if you can upload the levels I can make a better quality video too.

Would you mind writing a few paragraphs explaining what you think of X10 and your experiences with it? We might feature it in the next Newsletter.

Sure Rick, I am rendering the game also. I have good video editing software. If you would like I can create a better quality video and send you the master. I will also have the level online tonight so either way... I will also put together a review as you requested.

Level Demo:

http://www.metalkill.com/x10/Metal_Kill_Demo_101.exe

We will be creating a bunch of games with custom content this coming year and releasing them at metalkill.com

There is about 50 enemies in that level.

Hey thanks for the demo level - greatly appreciated !

Ok, let's start off with my PC specs:

Intel dual core 2.8 Ghz; 2 Gigs DDR2; 8800GT 512 DDR3.

Straight out of the gate, I've just got to say that the graphical quality of this engine is simply stunning - and your demo really captures it. I was blown away by the lighting, texturing, reflectivity, etc... , not to mention that some of these new baddies are capable of scaring the crap out a fella

Problem I had, was that after a 7 minute and 5 second load time, the very best my PC was able to do, was a slug-like 7 - 8 FPS. It was enough for me to get through the level, but nowhere near 'playable'.

The only other process going on, was the Fraps utility.

I remember the very same perfomance issues when the first version of FPSC entered the scene, and learned very quickly that these issues could be dramatically reduced by careful level design and prudent scripting loads - SO - I'm confident that it can be done with X10 as well.

Anyhoo... LOVED the demo! Just my 2 cents

I think the big problem everyone will have is coming up with something that will run on other machines than their own. We're going to need to help each other out and test each others stuff.

PocoRev, if you want I will render the level with lower settings and see if that speeds things up a bit. I am getting 200 FPS on the level myself... I do have 2 NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX which I am sure is helping a ton...

Hey, that would be great!

Maybe - just for the sake of experimentation, leave the Magnason baddy out of this one. Bond1 was saying in another thread, that this model alone carries 15 textures , which got me wondering how much load time could be saved by leaving him out.

Yep, I have to admit, that I found myself drooling a bit while reading your PC's specifications. Having such a powerhouse could make it a bit of a challenge for ya actually, as a smooth running level on your machine doesn't necessarily mean that the rest of us can run it at all. Guess that's where having a crew of beta testers on hand would be beneficial. Feel free to sign me up

Looking forward to trying the new compile.

Glad to see you like it. You really captured x10 in all its glory. But why do you take credit for the engine on your faq? It says it is the metalkill engine, even though it is fpsc and x10. link: http://www.metalkill.com/faq.php

Thanks for seeing that. When we created the domain last year we never new what the engine was going to be called. The site is old and just started rebuilding the site. We made the corrections calling it FPSX10... Is there a name for this engine? Also going to setup a credits page for everyone that works on our games, the game creators and all proper credits. I would never take credit for what the Game Creators have created, onlyhe credit for developing the levels and the skins we will make for our future games.

Level uploading now. Will post the link when ready.

See if the FPS pick up in that. If not I can tweak again and let you try. Hoping we see the difference in the rendering and that will alow us to make 3 ver's of a game for Low, Med and High Quality. That would allow the game to play on all Direct X 10 cards the same way. Anyway, let me know and I will render again if needed.

Enjoy!

No, not when the website was put together which was over 2 years ago. I designed half of the site and put it aside intill it was ready to be released. I joined this community after I have started the design to the website so at that time no. We were creating an engine using dark basic to code it but after news of FPSX10, that is what we were looking for.

Found a bit of time this evening after all.

The battle in this demo is INTENSE! loved it

The load time has dropped dramatically from over 7 minutes to just a tad over 2 min 20 seconds.

Framerate is between 8 and 11 I'm afraid.

Just to put things in perspective, I'm currently running both Lost Planet and Jericho on high video settings and getting a consistent 40+ fps on the first and 50+ fps on the second - so it would appear that my system is working ok.

Hope this helps. What do we try next?

Man, we're getting our butts kicked up here - in the midst of a brutal snow storm... calling for 20+ inches, and I'd say we're about halfway there already.

Anyhow, I've got some new info regarding your levels' performance on my PC.

After uninstalling and reinstalling both the latest video drivers and X10 itself, things seem to have perked up a bit for me so I decided to run through the demos again - and it has proven to be very interesting.

I've tested the first and third demos as they are the same level geometry (the 2nd level would kinda be like comparing apples to oranges).

1st demo now loads in 6 minutes and 15 seconds (down from over 7 minutes before), and the framerate seems to hover (for the most part) around 20 fps when there's no baddies around. This is a big improvement over the 7 - 8 fps I was getting before! Even so, things are still a bit jerky.
When the baddies show up, (the initial 3 for example) the fps drops fairly quickly and significantly to 13 -15 fps, making moving/aiming/firing very jerky and imprecise.
There are a couple areas in this 1st demo where the framerate reaches 24 (once all the baddies are gone)

3rd demo loads in 5 minutes and 55 seconds, giving it a modest improvement over #1 - but the real improvement is in the framerate. This demo likes to hover in the 21 - 22 fps range when everything is calm, but the cool thing is that when the baddies show up it doesn't drop below 19 fps! Still, this is a bit jerky and imprecise for my tastes - BUT, a significant improvement nevertheless.

Can you elaborate a bit on what you've done in this latest demo to boost the fps? We can all learn a bit here I think

We have some bad weather too... Should be in the uploads... register at metalkill and it should be under the old engine fspx9... Let me know if not I will look on my hard drives...

The three demos are broken down with the higest settings to the lowest setting in the game build mode. I still can go in game and reduce some of the features and it should make it run even better. Need to get it to 60 FPS somehow. We improved the FR 300% so I should be able to create a demo to run at least at 40 FPS for ya some how. let me see what I can create... Working on a Hostel the movie level.

I run at 200 with the dual cards with all the enemies in the room.

Looks good, but does the entire game have to be flooded? It seems that water in the scene is mandatory in everyone's X10 screenshots.

I agree with KeithC, since X10 was realesed, virtually all screenies I've seen so far are flooded with water for unecessary reasons. Please... disable the water in your mp maps, even though it is a cool effect...

Hi;

Hosted my own little one-man framerate experiment. In the back staging area, i started off at 80 fps. As i entered the door area to the main arena, the framerate took a noticable hit, decreasing to 54fps. Throughout the main arena area, the framerate would fluctuate a bit, reaching a high of 68 at one point - but never less than 54 fps.

Not sure what would happen under load, but the performance is looking pretty good to me so far.

Going away for Christmas holidays - return in a week or two.

Merry Christmas Folks

The website was purchased on ebay as part of thousands of templates that came with the order. I looked up the user that sold the package and he is no longer a member. I pulled the site as soon as I new a couple of days ago. The new site is going up in the next couple of days. I guess those web packages for 10,000+ web templates are all scams... They sell for $5.00 buck to.
