Okay, so tomorrow (technically today I guess, the 16th, whatever) is my 28th birthday. Before you say "hooray for Matt," there's a problem. My girlfriend has to work all day, my friends are either out of town for the holidays or also working, and since my gf has the car, I can't really go anywhere. But I don't want all of that to ruin my birthday, so I'm thinking about organizing, on the fly, some sort of online b-day party. Maybe round up a bunch of people and shoot each other up in some online game... would anyone be down for that? Because it's my birthday and not yours, I want to have a say in what game it is lol. My favorites are BF42, BFV, Rainbow Six 3, and Civ 4... the ones that can be played online anyway. We'd need a server for whatever game we play, and we'd have to coordinate a time, but I dunno, is anyone interested in doing this? Might be fun

Sorry if this is a pointless thread, just figured I'd invite everyone to my virtual birthday party that as of right now doesn't exist yet, lol.

Same here, I'd love to if I actually had any of those games. I don't actually own any modern games, just demos.

Seeing as it's you're birthday, and it's a weekend and I have nothing to do, I'm obliged to say yes. I also don't have any of those games, but if you want to play any of the Valve games (except the ones that come with the orange box) I'll do it. I might have some other online games, not sure. If you still have a copy (it's a bit old) we could play Diablo online.

Host a Wolf ET server, and I will come. Everyone who uses a normal OS (BSD, Linux, Mac, Windows) could come. And it's free. My 2 cents, but I want to come but don't own any of those.

I have the old half life, worms armageddon... uh... Delta Force Land Warrior although I genuinely dislike it... dang it, I need more games lol.

Oh, and I have GTA III for the PC, and there's the multi-theft auto mod, but the MTA servers have all been down for quite some time.

Here, I'll just do this lol, here's every game I have for the PC that's installed on my system right now:

America's Army, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Delta Force Land Warrior, Half Life, Hitman 2, Mech Warrior 3, Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, Rainbow Six 3, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, Riftspace, Starwraith, World of Warcraft, Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, Need For Speed: Underground, ToCA Race Driver 2, Fallout, Fallout 2, Mall Tycoon 2, The Movies: Stunts & Effects, The Sims 2, Vega$ Tycoon, Sim City 3000, Civilization 3, Civilization 4, Gangsters 2, Stronghold, and Worms Armageddon

And I have a bunch of PS2 games but I don't feel like sitting on the couch, lol

I can dig up call of juarez. But otherwise I dont own those other games.

GTA2 multiplayer would be hella fun, and that's a free download i think.

But otherwise, I work all day, but I'm thinking of taking off early at 4pm cst.

OOOH GTA2 multiplayer, that would rule! It's free, anyone can download it... does it have MP built in? I've never played the multiplayer version. We need to find a server for that and invade it. I'm free all day tomorrow, any time is cool with me

it is fun, but it kind of lagged last time I tried it, on a computer that could run HL2 at medium/kind of high detail. and yes it is free.

It would be fun to get together and play Scarface through Wifi on PSP, but I don't see that happening unless i pay for plane tickets. (which I won't)

Hey that's an idea! Let's find some free games to play, that way we can all play.

I have it, although for some reason it doesn't like connecting to the internet now. It's not such a good game nowadays anyway.

well, gta2 you can host your own server while you play, I'd be happy to host it. We'd prolly have to use hamachi cuz I know when I tired to play aoe2 I couldnt get it to network in vista for anything without hamachi.

I guess we're going for GTA2.

I just cleared that off my HD a week ago to free up space *grumble*

I'll go re download it.

for the multiplayer client, http://gtamp.com/gta2.php

I would be able to host a server, as a have a fairly good PC, it can run oblivion on max, it can host a server for a game made years ago.

This is going to rule We need to figure out what time everyone can meet up and all that.

Edit: Are we doing this tonight? It's kinda late where I am, I was thinking we could all do this tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow night (Eastern Time)... but then it's late in Europe I think. All I have to do tomorrow is watch Arsenal vs. Chelsea at 1pm EST. Other than that I'm free all day and all night until my gf gets home at 11pm, and even then she might just join in the fun.

heres a guide on how to forward your ports properly for this game, just select your router and it will give you instructions.

http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/GTA2M/GTA2Mindex.htm

that'll get rid of lag majorly

I think we should go to a chatroom or a multi-IM session do we can talk in realtime...

Tomorrow evening? Hmm.. I don't know.

My time zone is EST as well, I live in PA.
It's Sunday, so I'm home all day, but I do have some homework to get done.

I guess it's more sensible to sleep now and play later.

But, birthday man, it's up to you.

Europe is a big place you know, there's not a single timezone for it. I think that's about midnight in France, which is fine for me.

Everyone pile into MINet, we have a chat room there, not sure how good it is though. It's right on the front page, the chat link at the top of the page

Me and Xeno tested out a server, both of us had out ports forwarded, it was just the two of us on a two player map, and we had lag. haven't had a chance to test it without avg and other background tasks running. This might not work.

The plan is that we'll play GTA2 Online. We will meet at 6pm EST on MSN Messenger.

If you'd like to join in the fun, at 6pm EST message me on MSN, and I'll add you to our chatroom.

Download GTA2 and the GTA2 Game Hunter from the link provided somewhere here. Don't forget to forward your ports.

Just tested GTA 2 on a French server with Xenoscythe and it lagged pretty badly. Without Xenoscythe it ran reasonably. I'd assume this is because he's very far from the server. I guess this means I won't be playing it with you guys.

However at some point I think we should play Babo Violent 2 which is quite a fun free game that works well with not-so-good internet connections.

Judging by the fact that it was lagging, I think GTA 2 is one of those games that is coded in a silly way that means the game lags for everyone if someone has a relatively high ping. The server worked fine when Xeno wasn't there.

Well, I got my first birthday present today... Arsenal beat Chelsea one to nil, and it was a really exciting game to boot

Thanks guys for all of the happy birthdays and the virtual beer!

We'll meet up on MSN... I just hope Rami changes his name lol, he was taking up 9/10th's of the message box last night . And Xeno, your bot isn't invited lol. But yeah, if we can't get GTA to work we'll have to play either Stick Arena or Babo Violent 2, or maybe when one game gets boring we can play them all.

No offense to Xeno, but I'm wondering if maybe he's the bottleneck ping-wise, we should try the GTA server without him just to see if it's the game producing lag or if his connection is just crummy. We just got hit by two noreasters in so many days so it's possible the crummy weather in the northeast of the US is causing some trouble. I dunno, we'll give it a try, hopefully it was just a fluke from last night and all will be well today

Playing all 3 sounds fun

No, you are incorrect.
I played a full game with Adam just a few minutes ago. It was a blast. He lives only a state away, so it was no lag.

Matt, you live a state away too. Me, you, and adam are clear to play with no lag.
Cross country players lag terribly. I lagged Benjamin up really bad. :S

I installed GTA2 Game Hunter, have the ports forwarded and all that, but Game Hunter isn't working! I'm getting "Unexpected Error" when I try to load it. I'm talking to Adam on Yahoo right now trying to sort it, I'll load up MSN if we can't work it out

I played on a server with Xeno earlier today, and I closed out IM, Steam, MSN Messenger, and AVG, it it ran with almost no lag. I advise everyone to close out EVERY unneeded process.
