During the week we got an email saying the Stanley Cup was in the lobby for photographs. Of course, being a huge fun of the NHL since I was a kid, I waited in line to get a snap with it. The pic is bad, but hey, it was a dream come true

They had a dude in a suit standing on the side the entire time--- I guess he was responsible for the Cup's safety. Talk about responsibility

Has anyone else got a chance to touch this thing? I didn't want to kiss it because many others had. That's just too gross haha.

And a month ago Kim Jong Il came to visit my work, too. That was quite a surprise:

You know Jeku I always imagined you as an 'older' fellow. I think it had something to do with your avatar...

I am amazed that you didn't touch up on WHY the actual god damn thing was in your office.

I'm guessing something to do with you people making them silly NHL games.

What happens when they fill the trophy with the names of the winning teams?

hold on now, so your saying this thing could grow to be like 20 feet tall? That would be a tall trophy.

iirc correctly they retire older rings by removing them and keeping them somewhere sacred, like at IanM's moon base, or in the NHL Hall Of Fame or something. Then they add new engraved rings.

NY ISLANDERS - Stanley Cup Champions - 1979-1980
NY ISLANDERS - Stanley Cup Champions - 1980-1981
NY ISLANDERS - Stanley Cup Champions - 1981-1982(record)
NY ISLANDERS - Stanley Cup Champions - 1982-1983(record)

In 1981/82 the Islanders became the first US NHL hockey team to win 3 consecutive cups. In 1982/83 the Islanders became the first US hockey team win 4 consecutive cups, and the second team in NHL history to do the same. In 1982/83 the islanders swept Edmonton in the finals, to win their fourth cup. In the following year the Islanders made the finals for a 5th consecutive time, but lost to Edmonton. Edmonton went on to win 4 cups in 5 years, preserving the Islander record of the only US nhl team to win 4 cups in a row, and only the second team in nhl history. Only Montreal has more consecutive cups, but lets remember theyve been in the league since the stone ages when only 6 teams made up the "nhl".

Didnt Artie Lange from the Howard Stern show take a dump in the cup a few years back?

Now I'm really glad I didn't kiss it!

Technically this cup was placed just outside the cafeteria. My desk is a 5 minute walk in another wing of the building.

Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to see this trophy in person--- it was pretty warped and dented from some angles. I've read stories about the Cup being lost, getting in car accidents, etc. The players from the winning team gets to have it for X days to mess around and party with.

Go Canucks!

I always felt sorry for Kim Yong Il after watching Team America. His song was absolutely heartbreaking. I immediately send a Tamagotchi his way.

Is he drinking... Fristi?

I had to take a break from Asynchronous sockets coding, and I happen to be a devout lifelong Islanders fan

I've never seen the cup in person, but my dad had his picture with it. They brought it up to the steel mill one day.

But you guys keep your cup, I got to meet the dallas cheerleaders!

Ouch, I felt bad for Winnipeg after you guys lost your team. Canada always gets the shaft with teams moving in the NHL

Sadly I don't know how to pose or smile for pictures-- they just look uncomfortable all the time. The best pics of me are candid

That is so cool, what an honor, I wouldn't be able to stop smiling if I got to be next to that, legends have battled for that cup.
