ok... and why should we be interested? The mods have been doing a great job cleaning up Geek Culture then a load of people come along and mess it up again with pointless threads.

check your TEMP>Full Source Dump.dba file in the DBP folder, it has the code for the last thing you compiled.

This might not be the greatest post, but it isn't entirely pointless. It is at least tech related. It should be formed more as a question.

The only thing worse than a pointless thread are spammers that jump on any thread they see and call it pointless, and fill it with trash. Gil was the only person that gave good feedback, everyone else is talking about toast. It's neither clever or funny, it's just annoying.

Why don't you guys let the mods decide what's pointless or not? Trashing every thread because you want to poorly copy the mods is dumb.

In any event, you might be able to recover your source code, the source might be in your DBP temp folder as Gil says, or it might be in your project folder.

Cash is right, I'm slapping a bunch of you for 2 days. Posting crap inside a message is just as bad as creating a crap thread. This thread, while not as informative as it should be, is not useless.

EDIT:

Thread cleaned up--- removed 15 useless posts.

Jeku pwns all.

It's actually a bit absurd that DBC/DBP don't really autobackup or something. Would be totally awesome to have DBC/DBP backup a .BAK file for every succesful compile.

It does, I thought. You get .BAK files, I'm pretty sure, when you get a successful compile. Also, this sound like the good ol' DBP deleting your source code bug. Did you have 1 source file, or multiple source files? If you have multiple source files, that's when you're in danger, and in some special combination of conditions, when you get a compiler error, it blanks out the respective source file. Next time you hit SAVE ALL, it's all gone.

@Jeku -
That was fast. I was expecting more spam and toast.

Blue IDE makes a backup automatically, and Codesurge puts the concatenated file in my project folder. But, since I use Codesurge, I never lose code anyway. But I still back up the backup.

I'm sure this has probably happened to everyone at least once with the default IDE. After it happened to me back in '04 working on ROBOI, I immediately switched to the Blue GUI. Now I use Synergy and haven't had a problem with code loss.

Good luck getting it back, though. Make sure you do a full sweep of your project folder's files to see if it's in a BAK file or something similar.

Another thing to do is check in your DBpro\Temp folder. There will be a file there called "FullSourceDump.dba", which is the complete contents of all of your source files from the previously attempted compile. That has bailed me out a couple of times

someone's probably already said this but DarkEdit saves a temp file and a backup file by default (temp when you run, backup when you save)
so if you're using that it should be ok.

If not just start again, you'll probably write it better this time anyway.

Haha, I was confused when I read that thinking, "There's only been one other person who posted, so who's 'everyone else talking about toast'?". Then I saw Jeku's post with this:

Anyway, if you're using the Default IDE, like people have said, switch to another one. I use and suggest codesurge.

The standard DBP IDE eats source files it probably wasn't you who lost it!

Download the Code surge IDE http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=78701&b=8
