Hi all.

Today my girlfriend got an email from someone (not msn) stating that msn where going to cost, due to some wiered problems. They stated that if she wated to keep their account she should mail to an cirtain adress or mail at last 17 people... don´t know which really. Anyway, is msn really going to cost or is someone trying to fool us? Because I do not have that mail and I got 3 msn accounts (crap, that was one of the reasons msn where going to cost, accourding to the mail). What do you think? Anyone knows?

Take care,
Mr Z.

This si a very obvious attempt at a chain scam. Do not forward the message or whatever, you'd just be playing into their hands.
MSN would not ask you to forward messages from emails.

Lol, sounds like e-mail forward spam type junk to me, considering it suggests you forward the mail to 17 people to keep your account free .

Definitely spam. Considering how much money MS makes from all the advertising it sells via MSN there is no way it'd ever need to charge for it!

No of course they are. Starting January 1, the rates for MSN will be $12,95 per year for a basic account (up to 250 contacts and 1500 conversations per month) or $49,95 per year for a premium account (infinite contacts and conversations per month). You can buy 'addon' packages as extra conversations and contact space. Also, you get a free mail package which you can upgrade till up to 20GB. Also, premium members get exclusive access to new builds of MSN, Live Mail and other MSN-related services. In Europe, the rates are E9,95 and E45,- as far as I know.

Duh! Of course this is spam.

Definitely spam. Just ignore it. It reminds me of an email I got some time ago that said that Bill Gates was sharing his fortune with people who would forward on a chain letter.

Sigh, yes obviously junk. Isn't this old though? I remember hearing about this months ago.

Sometimes, it amazes me how many people fall for these. I've been noticing alot of it on Youtube and facebook recently. Just a couple of days ago i deleted my second-closest friend on facebook because he spammed me with some chain-mail junk. He was obviously kidding around, but I have a no-tolerance rule towards things like that.

This message was brought to you by Grandma industries.

Ok, it´s spam. I can´t really afford msn if it starts to cost . So I really hope it wont.

Why would MSN ask you to forward a message on to several people?

Nobody with any brains would pay for msn. Everyone would just move on to aim, yahoo, icq, irc etc etc.

Even if it did cost, Pidgin is freely available and supports a s***load of IMs.

Had one of these emails before, load of rubbish, it's just chain mail that contains a load of crap yet expects you to forward it - MSN will not cost money - it would be a stupid thing to do, they're a popular service, slap the charge on and everybody will start using GMail Messenger, Yahoo, AIM and other alternatives...instead I'm sure they'd rather have happy users than just suckers.

Be real, this is MS we're talking about. They'd rather have any customers

As was stated previously, MSN Messenger is ad based, that's how they get their money.

Well they'd probably actually get more money with loads of satisfied MSN customers than a few down in the dumps suckers. As they're paid by ads, then of course they'll get more money if they appeal to the vast majority.

I never understood why people can be so gullible for those silly chain emails. "Yahoo/ MSN/ Myspace/ whatever, will start charging x amount on y date if we don't get z replies to this email/ pm." They never come from the organization itself, and yet people still forward the message along hoping to avoid some silly charges down the road. 90% of the time I take people off of my friends list when they forward me that stuff, lol.

My grandma forwarded me a "forward this to xx amount of people and get a free $50 applebees gift certificate" The only way this could even have a chance of working is to CC the e-mail over to an Applebees supervisor dude who can make a note that you won a certificate. There were no instructions on needing to do that, and it's just ridiculous.. Argh. I just laugh at them and don't say anything... It's fun to see people do that stuff.

umm, you've obviously never seem spam before
1. It's not from MSN, if they were going to start charging they'd tell you about it.
2. Why would a company want you to forward an email to it's own members?
3. It didn't happen to say "if you do this by Friday the one you love will kiss you, but if you don't you'll die!" lol.

You could get banned for that.
How Ironic would that be?

I don't like the way chain mail seems to always carry death-threats these days.

Has anyone got that one about the girl who was in a car crash and got burnt?
It has the most horrific photo of a person I've ever seen, needless to say I didn't finish reading it and quickly scrolled up shouting "aah! aah! delete! delete! delete!"
I don't know how you could live after that. I know that these horrible things happen, and I feel really bad for those that are effected by it, but why do people have to put a downer on everything? If you spent your life feeling sorry for everyone else you'd waste your life and be depressed the whole time.

@Obese: I'm alright with the ones saying "If you don't forward this you'll die young and live a miserable and unfulfilled life up til that point and live on the streets" and all that rubbish 'cos I know most of it's not far wrong :p but the ones threatening your family if you don't pass it on are a wee bit far...

EDIT: didn't see your second post there...

Yeah the worst chain mail is the stuff that uses other peoples'/animals' suffering to try and get more forwards for no apparent reason... Like the ones which talk about some huge disaster and say that {some charity} will donate 50p towards glueing back together the corpses of people from some huge natural disaster or something like that for every mail that's forwarded when there's no way it's going to happen...

I hate chain mails. All of them. Well, escept for one where they skinned animals alive. That was fun. No, just kidding, it was horrible. Do not have anything against the mail (which tried to "make people care", if you get what I mean), just against those people who skinned those animals... alive! But at last I did something about it, which makes me feel good.

Know people who enjoy life and are like that. So I doubt that´s true for everyone, but that it´s true for you I do not doubt.

Now I feel like an a$$hole and I still don't really know why
I think I took that as meaning "You don't care about anyone but yourself".
How did you do that!?

I hate the very serious sounding ones, like the ones that are believable, or hearken to one religion. Then the last paragraph COMPLETELY spoils it by saying. Now just forward this on to at least 15 people and God will bless you and you will experience a miracle in your life tonight!
