okay, I recently posted this website, but I was a n00b and used tables instead of CSS styles. So I went back and re-did everything with CSS styles like everyone said to. But, when I checked the site after updating it, the background is all messed up! I used Z-depth or Z-position or whatever it is in the CSS style to make it so that the rectangular gradient is BEHIND everything else, but it didn't work! When I checked it in my browser at home, it looked and worked fine! But now that the newer version of the site is actually on the web, its all messed up! HELP!

Oh, also, the animated gif on the home page lost its transparency.

Ok. sorry for the TRIPLE post, but somethimg changed. I moved the CSS style file to the correct directory, (lol, aciddentally put it in the main one instead of the CSS folder) and now the rectangular gradient is in the back like its supposed to be. BUT, the "Finished works" page doesn't have the gardient at all!

Everything has that (aweful) gradient on mine (Firefox 2)...

May I make a suggestion and.. err.. suggest that you take an hour to browse the web and make a list of designs you LIKE and look GOOD and another list of BAD designs... Now go through that list and see if there are any common factors. Now see if your site breaks any of those rules you just made for yourself.

It's good you're following guidelines like using CSS... but (in my opinion) the site is far to loud and busy. Things like inconsistent page layout, green/red/orange text, inverting image colours on hover, pages with text that's part of the image (why? Why not make a background to a div with paragraphs in it?) and last of all - the 3 swords bouncing GIF. Yay you found an animation tool! Now put down the tool and make a static graphic

On a plus note - at least your navigation and background share a consistent palette, along with the background to the about us page.

Unfortunately, this page does not display correctly in FF2...

The image overlaps the text. This is due to the image being absolutely positioned and you using empty paragraph tags to push the text below.

Finally - I suggest you link the Javascript to the server rather than your own desktop

the content of the home page is centered in the browser, but the hedder (navigation) is not, this just looks bad.

you can create a hierarchy of div tags, eg

then style it like

because the header and content is a child of the container thay will also be centered on the page.

Got to agree, the site could use a little work design-wise.

@ hessiess: took me ages to figure out what you meant by "hirarki" - I thought it was like hara kiri or something... it is heirarchy right?

ok, thanks for all the tips guys. Unfortyunately... I don't know very much about HTML YET, I use the DESIGN panel in dream weaver, not the CODE panel. Im in school for multimedia design now, so I'll be learning it soon enough. but until then, I wont be able to improve my HTML skills much.

I personally find that site one of the best resources on the net. Even as a professional I still find myself visiting that site to remind myself of some of the less-consistent CSS rules!

When I can't remember what the syntax is for basic CSS I go to lissa-explains.com - such a pretty site! Specifically aimed for programmers of about 6 years of age, and the people like me who've spent a further 12 years viciously resisting maturity...
