I think the current illegality of digging a hole on a piece of property owned by a person is lame. It should be legal to dig on any piece of property, including corporate owned properties, as long as you keep your hole and all the run-off from the hole (the water you pump out of the hole) on your property too. And you don't (excessively?) damage the properties adjacent to yours. Although I think our standard of damage is too high, I think loud noises that don't break windows or other things should be okay. But no projectiles should leave your property, especially high speed TNT blasted projectiles from digging...unless you have your neighbors permission to use their property for that sort of thing.

This includes large corporate owned properties, but I could care less about that, actually...soo....I think it should be legal for anyone to dig a hole, but if there was a ban on doing it on a very, very large scale without permission (a global scale dig / strip mine may require some kind of permission from a global regulating authority like the UN...due to environmental issues that I personally disagree with but see some possible merit in. I also think caution may be a good path.)

This would allow people to dig little personal smaller scale mines in their backyards.

This would really entail that people owned the land under (and above?) their property...do people currently own the land under their property? Above their property? How high above their property does their ownership extend? (What is the 'depth' of owned property?)

What is under the dirt? What's under the clay?

If your neighbors are hiding WMDs or the only existing episode of "The war at home" that's funny, then dig 'em up, I say. I could go into a very long rant about this subject, (harsh words involving the government may be uttered) but I can't be bothered.

So you won't mind if I come to your front garden and dig a hole with my spade? To be honest when your property is your property you don't want the disturbance...hole digging is rather noisy and annoying.

Hole digging somebody else's property without their permission is still damaging their property and can be classed as vandalism.

i can't tell if you're arguing that we should be able to dig holes on our own property or someone else's...

i don't see how you would have any right whatsoever to go onto someone else's property and start digging a hole

in fact in texas (my current home) you just might get shot for that...

i think most people don't... i forgot the exact name but i think it's something like mineral rights.

Heh. I meant that it should be okay to dig holes on your own property, and not on other people's property, of course! That would be silly. People should have a right to not have a hole on their property, also.
